Where do you start!

Quote
For English football historians, the name Aston Villa represents true royalty, and dissecting their All-Time Greatest XI is a magical journey back to the miracle night in Rotterdam in 1982!

This squad is heavily dominated by the heroes who conquered Bayern Munich and brought home the European Cup. Between the sticks is Jimmy Rimmer, the legendary goalkeeper who started that '82 final.

The defense blends two different eras. We see classic heroes Allan Evans and Kenny Swain, paired with the lethal left foot of Steve Staunton and the iconic bearded Viking of the Premier League era, Olof Mellberg.

However, I must scream: Where is Paul McGrath?! Ignoring the defender dubbed "God" by the Villa Park faithful is a massive blunder that will definitely make your comment section explode with protests from true fans!

Entering the engine room, this is the pure foundation of the European Cup-winning team. The trophy-lifting captain, Dennis Mortimer, leads the midfield alongside the genius metronome Gordon Cowans.

They are flanked by the wing pace of Tony Morley on the left and the incredible stability of the Premier League's all-time record appearance holder, Gareth Barry. This midfield guarantees a balance between past magic and modern-era consistency.

Up front, we are treated to a highly entertaining combination. Peter Withe, the hero who scored the only goal in the 1982 European Cup final, partners with Dwight Yorke, the "Smiling Assassin" who terrorized Premier League defenders in the 90s before his move to Manchester United.

Whoever did that 'illustration' needs to revisit it.
And having seen them all play, I'd question a few of them.

There’s a nice* video on the premier league YouTube channel featuring the Ghana Lions. Looks brilliant, would love to watch a Villa game over there some day.

Would not have recognised Draper. Wrighty looked a bit sheepish when he said he coaches Man Yoo kids (not sure what he meant by not having worked since September?). Most surprised by Bosnich having the best memory of individual games and results from 30 years ago.

He was saying he’s only been there since September. Isn’t he also one of Carrick’s current assistants?

I went to see them when working in Ghana last November. So much fun!

I love their videos, but they'd soon do my head in if I was actually there.

He's another of those players who played well for us but had so much more to give. I really liked him as a player and remember being very excited at the prospect of him maturing into a legend ...

Good first season and was in and around the England squad.

Okayish second season and then not much after that.

Should have made much more of his talent. Don't think it was injury (for a change, with us) that held him back. So not sure what it was.
