"Quietest and flattest atmosphere in years"...really? Sounds like recency bias. There's been plenty of half-empty Villa Park nil-nils or defeats when we were shite with a mediocre manager and it's felt like a morgue.
Recency bias 🤣🤣  ?? Ok.
50 plus years of being a ST holder gives me memory of some very quiet matches and periods.
As for as today is concerned, I maintain, from where I sit, it felt subdued and flat until about 70 mins.

Still, when you get to my age, a bit of p&q can be quite welcome.

Sunday 2pm games have always been a bit a flat though, I find. Especially against teams yo're expecting to beat.

He was too busy shoving one of their players, if he'd ignored him and watched the ball he'd easily have punched it clear.

Spot on!

Having just watched the highlights, I agree.

The Buendia incident looked far worse on TV than I'd initially thought too.

Big Emi - maybe but the guy was all over him the corner before so I can understand it and that doesn't change the fact that we let the guy have a free header in the middle of the goal. Rather than blaming anyone individually I think it just needs to go down as a lapse from the whole team in a game where we were otherwise dominant.

Just seen the highlights and elbow in the face was definitely  a red card. If ref didn't see it what's the point of VAR?

Bogarde looks like he’s gained a yard of pace to me, he runs away from players now.
Maybe he’s been coached?

Bogarde did very well, suprised with his agression he relly gets stuck in. Thought with the changes we went into preservation mode which gave them some encouragement. Whats with our two new players not getting a run? Rogers better but his lay offs especially to Watkins was awful. Three points against probably the weakest side we've seen for a while.

Remember when Tielemans arrived, and it took him ages to get a good run in the team? I suspect it may be as simple as that.

I read the ref was new to the prem. I bet they didn’t overturn the red to avoid his hurty feelings. Si you are right, what is the point of VAR.

when SJM went off so did we.
Not sure who is captain when he is subbed, Konsa ?
But the team needed a rallying call before they pulled one back and it was not happening.

I thought we were excellent but should have been more clinical. I also thought the atmosphere was decent, got a bit quiet when we lost control but then picked up to help us over the line at the end, fueled by the injustice over Buendia.

Watch again and see what happens to Konsa, he was completely impeded by a Burnley player, it's no wonder he was furious. One holds him back whilst the other goes in front of him for the free header. Rugby league tactics.

One thing nobody seems to say about the revival of set-piece goals is that, maybe, it's got something to do with the fact you can do anything you fucking want in the box now.

Not just the box.  Assault is ok apparently.

Another change with VAR is that in review they seem to allow and acknowledge that the shirt pull wasn’t enough of a foul for a penalty but the ref will give these everywhere else on the pitch if they see it.

Emi getting booked for winning his header was still the worst decision.
