Funny how history keeps repeating last year and this related to 81/82. Last season it was 1-0 to the Villa in around the 70th minute against Bayern and this season back at Rotterdam scoring in the Withe End. Love it.

With our second choice goalkeeper having to replace an injured first choice and putting in a MOTM performance.

I may be wrong but I seem to remember the Conference league games helping us to find our form after a sticky start in the league that season.

I don't think that's quite right.

We had the Newcastle meltdown and the usual defeat at Anfield, but otherwise we were winning more or less every other league game. If anything it was our cup form that started shoddily, going out of the League Cup and losing our first Conference game to Legia, and we only scraped through our second with that last minute McGinn header against Zrinjski.

By the time we got that first Zrinjski win, we'd already put four past Everton, six past Brighton, won away at Chelsea etc.

Sort of, but they were a lot earlier that year, and were more about individuals finding a bit of confidence. Watkins’ first goals were a hat-trick v Hibs, and Duran scored in the return leg. Apart from the Newcastle disaster, results were okay anyway.

I am confident we are on the up now, especially with SJM back to his best and finding his scoring boots, Buendia getting back to his best, with more game time Elliott is going to show us his quality, Sancho showing glimpses he's finding his true potential, Kamara is Kamara say no more and possibly most importantly Tielemans will soon be returning. That is some midfield.

Just realised that the ref blew for the foul after the goal was scored. So VAR couldn't intervene because of why? Just wondering as it feeds back to May.

Wasn’t yesterday the 7th anniversary of cabbagegate?  What a turnaround.

VAR could intervene but if a player falls to the ground after contact and the ref deems it foul play what can VAR do? It was probably a harsh decision but the questionable bit is whether the contact was enough to be considered a foul and the ref has made a decision on that, VAR isn't there to make him change his mind on subjective calls, it's to highlight things he's missed. If Cash had actually tripped over his own feet and there was no contact VAR could've stepped in but once they can see the Feyenoord player nudge him their job is done.

I think that's his point. There's no real benefit in not giving the goal. Then if on review, it's a foul on Cash then VAR will reverse it.

Just like Rogers against Man Utd - give the goal, and if you need to chalk it off then fine. But at least give yourself the option.

Just seen the result and highlights. Can we start to believe again now?

Not so sure, team still looks unbalanced to me. Don't think we can ignore the amount of chances we are conceding to some pretty average teams. We looked very weak in the air last night. But results build confidence and some individuals have really picked up their form - Torres, Buendia come to mind. Also positives with our passing from the back with Torres particularly but Konsa broke out with the ball a few times. There was less of that standing on the ball stuff. Maatsen gives us width too going forward

Tielemans returning is obviously going to improve things but McGinn has been our best player by a mile in recent games in the middle. Presume that means McGinn moving wide or at 10. Still Elliot and Sancho to fit in and Rogers is only showing glimpses of his best form.

Ideal game home to Burnley on Sunday to keep this run going.

That dirty carthorse at the back for them that should have walked was in that god awful Sheff Utd team that we hammered so bad at Brammall Lane half their fans had left by half time.
He should of been sent off in the first half. He fouled Watkins then raised a leg the second time to make sure he went down. Inexplicable decision not to send him off.

Fouls are subjective though in the build up to goals and checked by VAR. We were told by prem match center that VAR couldn't review if there was foul by Rogers or not BECAUSE the ball was ruled dead before it crossed the line. Now it appears that a refs decision before a goal is final even if the ball crosses the line BEFORE the whilste is blown.

I think the ref ruled Watkins had kicked the ball too close to the keeper and wouldn't have caught up beforehand. And I can see that reasoning.

I thought Bogarde looked like Kamara last night, relaxed on the ball, taking passes under pressure and opening up the pitch with clever passes.
Agreed, I also noticed the similarities with Kamara last night, especially the little shimmy on the half-turn. Ever since seeing him in the Bilbao pre-season friendly last year at the Bescott, I've been convinced Bogarde has something about him. He was the fulcrum of our passing that evening; everyone (senior players included) wanted to get the ball to him. So it's nice to see him fulfil some of that potential.
