Five at the back is the answer.

Plus two holding midfielders. At home. Against everyone.

I do sometimes wonder what Cash could do to warrant dropping in the minds of some. Like, I agree Torres is badly out of form, but had he committed half the errors that Cash has - not to mention generally looking as comfortable on the ball as a giraffe coming off a particularly bad night's sleep - there'd be calls for him to be put in the dock at The Hague.

Presumably in the absence of Garcia or a right-sided CB to play where Konsa does it's more a case of there not being an obvious alternative?

It's interesting to me that it's not even discussed that perhaps we should try Konsa out there with Mings and Torres, who can shuffle over to make a much more natural three like in fact Cash was asked to do against Brentford (and didn't do particularly well). Like, one thing is considered beyond question (two left-sided centrebacks failed once so it's OVER), and another thing not even worthy of mentioning (Cash at rightback shuffling across has been a weak link dozens of times).

I think it's connected to a weird characteristic a lot of people have, where they view hard work as virtuous in and of itself.

Pick up the ball to concede a penalty?

I mean it's admirable, and I do like him, and I think he's been good at times! But he does make rather a lot of mistakes, and the smallest mention of this provokes wails of protest from corners that are one loose pass away from burning effigies of Onana in the streets of global capitals.

It's a strange time to have a go at Cash, he got a pass last weekend. The best of our back 5, back 6 if you count the 50m hole in our midfield.

I just...I don't care. My point is proved as far as I'm concerned.

Cash gets a lot of unfair stick, IMO. We were the best defence in the league in the last two months of the season and he played virtually every game. He's been a massive part of our success in the last two and a half season since Emery turned up.

Edit: second best, Man City better.

We’ll camp in their half going side to side without success. They’ll hit us on the break a few times. 3 goals for Sarr and 3 goals for Mateta.

Standard.

I think its fair to say that Palace have had a slightly low key start to this season after the heroics of the last, they probably need to play a side they feel they can't fail against  - oh hang on.....
