It?s the league he?s not suited to, not the Villa.  Look at his showreel from other leagues and he looks like a genius.  The PL is literally the toughest, most demanding football you can play on earth.  He?s just found it?s a level too far.  Not his fault. 

Hopefully we can move him on either permanently or on loan.

I?m with Mellin. I?ve seen plenty of Sunday League players that have much better ball control and tactical awareness than Guessand. I?m not saying these amateur footballers are anywhere near Premier League obviously but I do wonder how Guessand has somehow managed to get to play at the level he as, with such limited ability. He?s woeful.

I agree, young Luca Lynch has more ability in his big toe compared to Guessand

I thought he did ok (no more than that) last season when coming on as sub and helping us see games out but he doesn't seem to suit how we play. It sounds like Palace want him back anyway.

Sunday league players are not better than Guessand in any shape way or form.

I played against Tore Andre Flo in a Sunday league game, he was definitely better than Guessand.

Confidence is huge with any player, this poor guy looks like he would rather be anywhere else than playing for us. He couldn't be that bad, hope for his sake he shows his quality elsewhere, but he simply doesn't have the technical skills to play for us. He knows it, Emery knows it and worst of all his teammates know it.

Many years ago I saw a roundtable discussion with a number of top level coaches - not managers from the Premier League or anywhere across Europe. They disagreed on many things but one thing they did agree on was the difference between decent players and truly great ones was their decision making and speed of thought.

Bronte has the right of it, Guessand just looks like he doesn't want to be here and like he doesn't think he deserves to be here. The weight of the fee, the demands of Emery and pressure of the league have all ground him up into a player who looks scared of his own shadow.

I don't know if he has the basic skills to succeed (but his time at Palace did show he's better than he's shown for Villa) but he really needed to come out this summer and fight for his place and he hasn't done that so I can't imagine we'll make it too hard for him to move on.

I'm gutted though because when we were first linked I really thought there was enough there for him to turn into an effective option for us.

Anyway, book value now around 19mGBP and we had a chunk of his wages paid and presumably received a loan fee. So I see the catastrophising and raise it a minimising.
