In preparation for next season I’ve just explained to my son that Coventry fans hate Villa and see us their main rivals. He’s completely baffled, not sure he believes me.

No. That privilege is reserved for local rivals. They don't count by either measure.

Never been to the new place but Highfield Rd was a great day out, lost count of the number of times I've been there. In the days when you could pay on the door we used to take the place over. As long as we finish above them and do them home and away I don't give a toss. It's good to see an ex top player finally making a comparative success in management and I wish him well.

I don’t think there will be much of that from them. I remember when they were relegated at VP and John Gregory was asked how it felt to relegate local rivals at VP. He replied that Villa didn’t relegate them, there were 37 games before this one and that’s what the actual issue was. I used to live and work amongst many of them and they all agreed with that assessment. Sure, there was a lot of cope within that but it happens to be true that they were crap that season.

They still hate us. Videos knocking around about how "they're coming" for us. Had a bloke on the radio asked this morning for the fixture they're looking forward to most. Unsuprisngly it was us.
