Where the ref is born, or who they supported growing up when most had no inkling they would go into refereeing, shouldn’t make any difference as a professional what game they officiate.

I'm pretty sure it doesn't.

Probably not but why even introduce the doubt? Just seems to make a hard job even more difficult.
