As brilliant a hatrick as you will ever see from Valverde. Brilliant.

Trouble with the penalty was the ref gave it first. The player sliding in did catch Madueke's trailing leg with his torso which then allowed him to fall over "with contact". If ref hadn't given it, VAR wouldn't have.

So, if the ref hadn't given it, neither would VAR. But as he did, VAR go along with it? Is VAR just there to rubber stamp the refs decision then?

The trouble with rhetoric is that there's always commonsense expression to justify both any given position and its opposite. For instance, you deride this kind of decision as 'rubber stamping' - however, it is the logical consequence of demanding that VAR correct only 'clear and obvious errors'. So them's the breaks.

What a hattrick by the way.

VAR doesn't correct only clear and obvious errors, though. They spent 5 (five) minutes disallowing a Burnley goal the other week. It was a blatant dive. Arsenal are cheating ******.

We should look at signing Valverde in the summer.

I want all the English teams in this to go out, but presuming for 5th place purposes, we need one or two to get through. Arsenal will probs get there, and I guess Liverpool are the least worst option, given how many times theyve won it?
