That O’Reilly looks so far out of his depth.

So now the conspiracy in favour of Arsenal has extended to officials in Northern Europe?

Do you really think the amateur referees of Utrecht really want little old Aston Villa getting a home tie against Rotherham? Wake up to what's in front of you man. If you thought anyone but another Khameni was going to be made Supreme Leader before the Manc effluent, the Salford effluvium, the Stretford discharge had taken a throw-in five metres further up the pitch than where the ball went out you're clinically insane and you need help because you're mad and you've lost all perspective.

Fair enough.

Trouble with the penalty was the ref gave it first. The player sliding in did catch Madueke's trailing leg with his torso which then allowed him to fall over "with contact". If ref hadn't given it, VAR wouldn't have.

So, if the ref hadn't given it, neither would VAR. But as he did, VAR go along with it? Is VAR just there to rubber stamp the refs decision then?

If all the English sides got knocked out of the CL at this stage, could it endanger 5th place in the Prem qualifying ?

There was nothing clear and obvious to override it as there was contact. It was shit contact but there was still contact so if the ref states I saw contact and so a penalty, VAR would have to prove there was none to be clear and obvious to send him to the screens. If the ref had done what they did to us and went, there was contact but not enough for the player to go down, VAR would have had to show significant more contact to override it.

Yes, I think Barry should take the penalty!

Edit: Going into this round, England are 4.5 points clear to Germany and almost 5 points clear of Spain. Spain has 6 teams in it and any win points are divided by 8. Germany have 5 teams in it and any wins are divided by 7. It is two points a win and 1 a draw so both Germany and Spain would get 0,25 a win and germany 0.28 a win. There are 21 matches left in all competitions. Mathmatically  one country could get above us but I don't think both will.

It's to change anything that is obviously wrong. If there's a grey area, then yes, they stick with whatever decision was given on the pitch.

In theory, at least.

It was clearly and obviously a dive.
