Not really. But I suppose it depends what you're trying to measure.

If I buy a copy of an author's book and burn it, the author doesn't care that I didn't get a good read out of their work. If I buy a ticket to watch Avatar and then choose to spend my time doing literally anything else, that's still a ticket sale on Avatar's bottom line.

This is how it's always been, however. It's not a new thing.
