Why are they fellating Foden over a three yard pass when Eze has just bent it in the top corner from 20 yards first time?

NARRATIVE.

It's a simple pass, if anything it's bobbling and Eze catches it sweetly on the bounce. They even brought up Foden when interviewing Eze.

He has his moments ...none in an England shirt but hes the most overrated player in the premier league with Kamara being the most underrated.

With admittedly my villa glasses on, ITV changed tact when Lord Jude came on and Little Phil. England were 'purring' apparently. Anderson/Konsa barely mentioned at the end as I felt they were the best two.

They were desperate for Foden to do well and ended up praising him for the most minor of things and ignoring anything he did that wasn't great.

It's weird because he gets all this despite having never really played well in 45 attempts, he makes Barnes look like he had a successful England career.

Southgate is Gerrard, Tuchel is Emery.

Not sure that tracks with Southgate being England's second best manager in history.
I'm not convinced. His record against countries in the top 10 is appalling. I think we got as far as we have done in recent competitions despite him rather than because of him. I don't know if he's taking a sabbatical from football voluntarily or not but there's hardly a queue of top clubs trying to sign him up. Surely the second best manager in England's history should be taking his pick from the top jobs. Time will be the judge I guess.

Not really, his record is the judge. And his tournament record is the second best of any England manager.

It's a perfectly coherent argument that he's only second best because of the terrible job that most of the others did and he's the proud winner of the tallest dwarf competition (not an argument that I choose to believe), but that is still what he is.

TBF, they were about to talk about "maybe he can't do the role" but then he did the simple pass and any continuance of criticism was straight out the door. They didn't even mention when his clearing defensive header took the ball off of Eze's foot.

The Ireland match was edge of the seat stuff but fabulously entertaining.

They will go some to match that endeavour on Sunday but while you're still in it, you're still in it.

To be honest I think Hungary are a better team than Portugal so unless they bottle it on Sunday then I think it's going to be a game too far for us. Hungary absolutely battered us in the first half in Dublin. Three red cards in our three home games for our opponents. Remember under Brian Kerr we brought it down to final games v Switzerland in two qualifying campaigns but didn't perform in either game.

Delighted for the players and manager last night. Tactically superb in that first half. Coleman seems to be semi retired at Everton but has been outstanding in both Portugal games. Cullen has taken a lot of grief in an Ireland shirt but was very good in midfield again. Parrott was brilliant up front, reminds you of Robbie Keane a bit with really clever movement and finishing. Brings a lot more to the team than Ferguson. Was an outstanding underage prospect but lost his way badly in London, on and off the pitch.

Portugal are a circus. Martinez, Ronaldo, even likes of Silva seem well past it now. Rocked up last night like it was a friendly and were caught out

I've also read two seperate pieces in the Guardian by David Hynter and Jacob Steinberg in the last two days wher they state that John Stones is a nailed on starter and Guehi and Konsa are fighting for the spot next to him.

Have I missed something here, when was this decided?

Also, the 'St Jude redemption arc' story is off in earnest. I only caught him losing the ball cheaply before fouling his man, getting away with it and passing it to Foden who under no pressure was able to bobble a ten yard pass to Eze that Marvellous Nakamba would have given himself 6 out of 10 for.

How many games for England has he gone without a goal now?  Same old story with England - always trying to shoehorn underperforming 'star' players into the side at the expense of having a side that actually works well together.  The midfield and attacking unit of Rice, Anderson, Sarah, Rogers, Gordon and Kane has worked well.in the qualifiers and started to gel.

Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden are two of the worlds most overrated players.  I honestly wouldn't want either of them at Villa.
