When analysing the performance of teams in one particular match, agreed. When used over a much larger quantity of matches as one of a number of figures you could utilise to assess the quality of strikers, it seems a perfectly reasonable tool.

Yep. On a game by game basis it means very little because it's a probability stat and they're always shit with a small sample size but over longer periods it's as good a stat as you'll get to help focus where to train and identify what is and isn't working.

Even then it's only useful as a pointer for things to consider but it does a great job of highlighting things that can be easily missed otherwise.

All stats are a load of old bollocks
the eye test and score are the only things that matter

I don’t really understand this xG business. How does this equate to West Ham expecting to score more than Everton?

It’s absolute nonsense…eyes can tell you who is on top etc.  Football is not an exact science do expected tells you it means nothing.  Football is on grass not spreadsheets

On the game - Diouf won’t be slumming it at pointless club West Ham for long-looks a player

It isn't for people watching the game live though is it. Just a stat for people to see that a team with 63% possesion and 20 shots at goal weren't really dominating attack as much as the one with 37% and 5 shots if the 5 shots were all from the 6 yard box and the 20 was all from 30 yards away and they never got near the box. And as others have mentioned, better over a longer spread.

Thought Grealish was poor, very ineffective.

Was he double teamed by West ham or just going back into his Citeh comfort zone again.
