Newcastle have started the season with the same points we've got, after finishing level last season (GD I know).

I doubt their fans are shitting themselves as much as ours are. Doubt they're questioning Howe either.

Amazing to construe into an opportunity to have a dig at Villa fans. They probably also wouldn’t look for any possible way to slag off a successful centre forward.

It's not a dig at Villa fans though. It's putting things into perspective.

I got moaned at yesterday for posting about Watkins too much and now you've brought it back up. As you mentioned it, do you think 17 goals in 61 apps is good?

It’s 17 in 54.  If you are going to repeat stats at least get them accurate.

That was last season.

He's scored 17 in his last 61 games (spanning three seasons), so yes it is accurate.

Do you think it's good?

It is a dig, you’re benching marking Villa fans against Newcastle fans.

I can’t quite work out which games you’re selecting, seems kind of arbitrary. But 74 goals and 30 odd assists from 180-190 league games is pretty bloody good.

No its not a dig. Go and check the Unai thread. Wheels have fallen off and there is a malaise at the club. Those were comments posted after the game at the weekend. I used Newcastle because they've had the same points as us both this and last season. Perspective is needed.

You've included assists when I asked about goals so you've proven my point again that it isn't good.

Haha, fair enough. But Why include five games from two seasons ago?

I think it’s fine. Crucially so does the best manager we’ve had in thirty years.

So Toon couldn't get a winner against us despite playing against 10 men for over half an hour, even though on the balance of play, they deserved the full 3 points.

And tonight.
Down to 10 men, 0-2 down, get it back then blow it at the death.

2 games played in which they put in good performances and probably deserve 4 poimts.but they’ve ended up with a single point.

The same as us, and we've been shite.

Football eh?

Centre forward on strike.
Nobody wants to join them
Gordon out for Leeds (A) on Saturday.
Tonali off with a possible dislocated shoulder.

Wonder how pissed off they must be - Sob on the Tyne.

I reckon Ramsey will make the next England squad.
Kind of nailed on I'd say now .

The punctuation thing is clearly just trolling now, so why not desist, seeing as deliberate trolling is against the site rules? Would be devastated to see you banned again.

That was Newcastle’s Macheda moment.

I'd forgotten all about that; watched it on YouTube just now. Can't remember the context of the goal

Difference is that Macheda had to work for his goal. The lad today was in his own borough...

Yeah I think because you struggle a bit with the context of a forward, but we all have our blind spots.

Don’t believe that for one minute

So you’re saying that in the last 61 league games Watkins has played He’s only scored 17 times
naa that can’t be right

Also it’s cutting stats to best suit your argument, which is why it’s better to look at his record in his time at the club. He scores his goals at better (and quite a bit better) than a goal every three games. That’s really good, and when you add his assists (and general play) - which really matter - his record is exceptional.

Yes, but….
They have played a tough game at Villa Park, and shook up the champions last night. They have created chances and scored goals. We were awful at home and got easily beaten by a team wisely predicted to be relegated and created next to no chances never mind score.

Week 2 of the new season and I have already given up on watching the live games and checking the football results.

I only care about Villa, that’s what drives my interest and enthusiasm for the game.
I hope they and I get our mojo back very quickly.
