I agree with Chicago in this instance, I think. His arm is clearly by his side, so you have to be sure that he is deliberately moving it towards the ball to give the penalty. The ball deflected a split second before hitting him so I don't think that's a reasonable assumption. They seemed to provide about a dozen ultra slow-motion replays but not once did they show it in normal speed to demonstrate how little time he had to move his arm. If that had been given against Villa this forum would be in revolt.

I didn’t see the incident live but picked it up on the highlights. Had to watch it a few times to see what all the controversy was about. I thought it was a clear case of hand ball.

I'm similar but I think rather than being clear it's a 50/50 call where once the ref has fallen one way or the other VAR is never going to overturn it. If it was given against us I'd be pissed at the ref but wouldn't have expected VAR to step in because that would be re-officiating the game, which is something they've always been clear they won't do.

If that’s a clear hand ball when the player is literally trying to move his arm behind his back then the game is completely fucked

I know im in a tiny minority but I actually thought it was a clear pen. For me Tarkowsky leans into the ball knowing it's going to hit his arm. I'll put my tin hat on now.
He leant into it but the ball had deflected off another defender so the stretch seemed more exaggerated, and he was trying desperately to tuck his arm in.
Not one of his teammates appealed and his protests were that he was pointing at his arm. For some reason he thinks that's a good argument. For me he leaned into the ball knowing it was going to hit his arm. I think nowadays even the most blatant of decisions are argued about by players and managers who are trying to influence future outcomes in their favour.

Grealish appealed anyway not that teammates appealing should tell you anything. Neville, as an aside he's awful these days, was trying to use a similar argument that you could tell by his face apparently that it was a penalty. That lost point could count against Everton later in the season.

Whilst moving himself closer to the ball.....

If he was moving out of the way, that's different, but he initiated the movement.

He’s a defender he’s trying to block it with his body while trying his best to get his arm round his back out of the way
Have people gone raving mad saying he should be getting out of the way of the ball, is that what you think defenders should do in the box, try and get out of the way when the balls kicked towards goal rather than block it it’s hilarious
