While I don't ever want English teams to do well in Europe, it's utterly bollocks that Palace are being punished for their own success and forces to play a bunch of reserves tonight, because the authorities were incapable of conceiving the possibility that a Conference League team might make the quarter-finals of the League Cup and planning accordingly.

Counter-point, Palace made a £20m profit on transfers last summer, and four of the five players they signed are starting this evening.

Nobody forced them to play this season with a senior squad of about 16 players. Or to have a fifth of their squad eligible for the AFCON.

Either way, they are still weaker than they would otherwise be because of the league/league cup organisers being idiots. They shouldn't be put at any disadvantage, especially when the league didn't mind inconveniencing us to help Tottenham have more preparation time last season.

I don't really follow. Are you suggesting that all this would be fine if Palace were playing Wednesday instead of Tuesday?

And if they were playing on Wednesday then tonight they'd be playing their already overplayed, pared-to-the-bone first team instead?

Or have I misunderstood you, and there's some other time that Palace's insufficient squad should play their League Cup game?

That'd be a poor result against a parcel delivery firm.

Teams shouldn't be forced to play two games in three days. I'm not sure why that is complicated? They should have organised the fixtures to avoid this possibility.

They went out of their way to help Tottenham and Man U but have punished Palace for being successful.

Yeah, Zrinjski sneaked in with basically the last kick of the group stage.

Palace home to either Zrinjski or Sigma Olomouc in the second leg of the playoff round. Away to either AEK Larnaca or AEK Athens in second leg of last sixteen if they get through.

Edit: make that AEK Larnaca or Mainz, AEK Athens just scored in the 106th minute.

Just on the off chance that we do somehow maintain a title push, we could perhaps do with Palace getting knocked out so that they don't rest players in their last league game, against Arsenal, the weekend before the final.

It’s really poor scheduling and feels like they’ve suffered as a result. It’s hard to see them sustaining a challenge for the champions league places and the cup competitions. It’s a real shame for them. I’m delighted.

Be better if one of the weekends after their additional games wasn't against poxy Chelsea. ☹️
