I was too nervous to watch it, as good as we’ve been in the Emery era there is still a nagging feeling that in the do or die games we will bottle it. The referees mistake was clear but we shouldn’t have been in the position where it came down to that, 99/100 times the keeper picks it up, should we really be relying on a gift like that on top of Newcastle losing at home?

Another L without Mings too, it was always going to be a nervy occasion and we needed strong leadership. That one is on Unai I’m afraid.

Especially after Emi getting sent off, we needed Mings’ leadership at the back.

We haven’t had Mings at the back for the last few games and we won them all
I’m not denying his leadership qualities, but he’s also liable for a brain fart like everybody else in the back line,
He literally picked the ball up in the box at club Bruges and gave them a penalty ffs
Mings played at Bournemouth . And once he was subbed off the keystone cops defending returned

I like Mings I’ve got no agenda against him like you have against Torres

I'd have gone with Mings yesterday personally.

Fumble aside , Did we muster a single save from their rookie keeper , abject performance it really was , ending the season on a whimper and feels like the end of an era has closed sadly .
It's not the end of an era I don't know why your being so melodramatic. We still have amazing owners and we still have Unai and Monchi in place. We have European football for the third straight season and they're about to expand the stadium to 50,000 for the first time in decades. Yesterday was unbelievably frustrating as was the Semi final but we learn and we move on. We're in a great position and it's certainly not the end of an era.

Because we lost all the players that didn’t play would’ve been better options

I'd have gone with Mings and Ramsey over Torres and Asensio

I think the Mings v Torres debate has been going for some time and the stats tend to support the idea that we concede less and lose less with Mings in the team.

No John, I suggested it in the pre match thread.

But I still say it’s not a team selection thing it’s a mentality thing
I also said that in the pre match thread

Yes, they shit themselves in the ultimate crunch games and go in to their shells.

Which obviously includes the mentality of the players selected.
Based on everything I have seen I would take Mings mentality over Torres mentality.

Also hardly gave Isak and Evanilson a sniff in two of his last PL games. The bit that irks me is that Torres supposed elite level distribution is fast fading before our eyes. Far from only one yesterday but he was predictably awful. Getting caught in possession like that after half time was diabolical.

After Wembley I just don't get how Emery thought it was a good idea to play Torres ahead of him. Then at half time with 10men and the team hiding, it beggared belief how Mings didn't come on at half time.

We bottled it spectacularly yesterday, reminded me of England v Iceland in the Euros. Complete capitulation.

I’m not saying we shouldn’t of started with Mings, he might of made the difference although he’s crumbled a few times against Man United in the past like everybody else

It was a capitulation yesterday but I wouldn’t have picked out Torres as the chief culprit I think there are others that can take that accolade.
Obviously those who have the agenda against him every time we lose it’s always on him is not gonna change
