If our players hadn't played like utterly pathetic ****** today, we wouldn't be talking about a refereeing error.

Absolute frauds to a man today

Agreed but we were still in the game at that point no matter how shocking we’d been.

The players and manager have been handed a ‘get out of jail free’ card. THEY should be held to account for that shitshow.

Whilst I appreciate the comments in here that we got what we deserved over the season as a whole as a result of poor performances and late concessions against Bournemouth, Man City and West Ham, as well as 4 points dropped against the second worst team in the division, the fact of the matter is that there we were, albeit being outplayed by a team that finally decided to turn up for a home game, I think we all have to near in mind that we were in the game at 0-0, had begun to string some passes together and looked like we might, just might, get a goal or at least hold on for a draw. The ref's appalling decision for what he could not possibly have been sure of and his subsequent whistle did for us at the end of the day - never mind earlier results - that's not the point. I can understand VAR not overruling the decision if the whistle has affected defenders' ability to defend the resulting goal, but surely they should be able to decide otherwise when the whistle has no effect on the play. Rogers won the ball and struck towards goal with no defender in sight. A change in that rule seems overdue.

We were robbed on a technicality, he blew the whistle as the ball bounced, a yard from crossing the line, with an empty goal. If he'd blown the whistle after the ball had gone in would his decision have still stood or would VAR been able to intervene?

Frustrating day. So much thanks for Unai but he does consistently make strange decisions despite a wonderful record

Why not play away as we do at home?

Why play Torres rather than Mings?

Why play Onana and Kamara together when it means we can’t play possession football?

Why play the ball around the back when we aren’t dominating possession?

Why play Asensio when it means Roger’s can’t play in his most effective position?
These are fair questions, we have seen multiple times now Emery failing to get the right selection and tactics when it really matters.

They’re not stupid, they know it wasn’t good enough. Being held to account is less important than just working out how to do better in future.

Bottom line.  We failed to get CL because of our inability to beat Ipswich twice.

Undoubtedly done over by the officials today, but like Palace, come the big occasion we play like a bunch of started rabbits.
Yes we should have beaten them especially the home game but we have had quite a few single goal wins this year when the opposition could have equalised late on but luckily didn’t so these things balance out

Absolutely. In many way's this group of ****** have been bailed out by the contrevorsy today.

To turn up and "perform" how they have today in such a big game? Fuck them.

The refs whistle has to be the point at which the game stops, how long after the refs whistle should play continue, 30 seconds a minute ?
It was an appalling decision but you can not change the protocol.

Bit much chaps. You can be disappointed with the performance, but to call the players ****** is too far.

Club statement on letter written to PGMOL. https://www.avfc.co.uk/news/2025/may/25/club-statement/

We knew who the referee was before the game and should have moaned then about the selection process.  Yes, it was an error for the Rogers goal, I have little doubt about that, but the referee didn't pick the team, didn't set us up in training all week, didn't give his goalkeeper a suicidal backpass or make Martinez look at the player before he took him out.  The referee was wank, sue the FA for the lost revenue that missing out on the Champions League will cost us but the rationale in the letter sounds small time.  The decision to disallow the goal was a key moment, but we knew who was referring before we kicked off.   Sue them for the shocking decision, not because of the way they select the referee.

To call players ****** that have have finished 7th, 4th, 6th and a CL QF at a time when the deck is massively stacked against us is ridiculous.
