I think why I'm so frustrated by this is that there are Villa fans downplaying how big an impact it had when even twats like Savage are seeing it the same as me:

Quote
Robbie Savage
Former Leicester midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

Watch it on TV and you can clearly hear the whistle go and all the referee has to do is wait two seconds.

The officials say don't put your flag up, so we'll see a player in an offside position by five or six yards, they let the play go on, wait and then they stick the flag up 15 seconds later. All they had to do was let it run out then use VAR and if he wanted to give the free-kick he would've but he's blown his whistle. It's a massive, massive error.

Man Utd might've gone on to win the game but at 1-0 Villa it's a completely different game. That is a huge, huge, huge decision by the referee because VAR couldn't get involved because the game was dead.

Massive talking point for Villa fans.

Jesus. When even that pantomime villain is sympathetic to you then you know what a f*ck up it was.

Yeah, that's where I'm at. Why downplay it? It's a disgrace.

The refs mistake was sickening at the time because if you are like me you didn't know he had blown when he did, and felt sure the decision would be overturned.

People want to blame a specific game lost or drawn for not making the CL, but it's goal difference. So many games where we conceded first and had to come back to win, several games where we were comfortably winning and then conceded goals. Games we were dominant in and only scored 1 of about 10 chances. We're not clinical enough, and we can't seem to put a 90 minute performance in with any consistency.

Bad decisions have been happening all season, the standard of refereeing has been appalling and the inconsistency of how the laws are applied even worse. What has been consistent are the officials allowing the game to go until that phase of play is done so they can use this bloody VAR system. Today, the ref chose not to do that and that is what people are upset about.
I’ve watched it a few times and cannot understand what’s happened. Surely it’s drummed into them to not to whistle straight away.
It’s no good complaining as they mark their own homework.

I think there's such thing as being too rational. Job was done. I hope the club litigate.

What the point Manchester United Manchester City and especially Liverpool have been shown favouritism for years, the referee could have waited. What the hell Martezi was doing.

Is there any sort of man city points deduction we can pray for?

Well the verdict is due any day.

Is it?

No one cares. Come Tuesday it will be forgotten and they will move on to fucking around with some other VAR rules making them more confusing and adding more layers of interpretation. Let it go. We were shit, deserved to lose and Refs are getting worse backed up by a VAR system that marks its own homework and tells us all how good it is. It's already spoiled the spontaneity of the game.
