Our current strongest 11 when everyone is fit are still a majority of players signed under Bruce, Smith and Gerrard. The time to blindly follow the currect set up is when their signings make up the majority of a successful starting 11.

I don’t accept the premise of a binary choice but if you do take that argument then similarly the criticism should be tempered until they’ve been allowed by both time and financial constraints to make those signings.

I never expected Emi to stay - maybe it's the right time for him, he's had his best season with us - I think he's on the decline.

Is he really? I thought he was outstanding in pre-season catching every high ball put into the box and his distribution was faultless.

I suspect it’s BS in an attempt to apply pressure to get their negotiations for Lammens over the line.

Yes, I’d expect this. We’d be unlikely to accept a last minute bid for Emi unless the plan was always to have Bizot as his replacement. Or we can trolley dash a long term target in?

Worth noting the current set up has a transfer surplus which I doubt the previous regimes could boast.

For me the jury is still out. A transfer surplus is impressive but the under utilisation of Malen, Maatsen, Guessand does justify questions about how well aligned the policy is.

Malen couldn't get in the side ahead of Rogers, Rashford and Asensio.

Guessand has been here for 2 weeks of the season.

Wasn’t last season the best yet? Champions League Quarter Final, Semi-final if FA Cup, decent league table position. We’re two games into this season with a very fractured summer, which is no fault of his.
I meant personally, Emi's previous seasons were better than last in terms of his own performances. imo.

Agree, it’s early to judge them. Any of them could become our best player but Emery seems reluctant to throw them into the team.

Emery has form for this though and therefore ‘immediate success’ is a harsh stick to beat Monchi with if most players need X months to graduate from Emery school. There’s naturally a lag and football fans are rarely patient.

Every player can have off periods. You don’t win the best gk in the world trophy two times running if you’re not worth your salt.
It’s more the message it sends imo. Losing one of our prize assets to that basket case of a club is not a good look if we really want to stand up and be counted.
Will be absolutely distraught if he goes. Born winner and there would be a massive hole in the dressing room if he leaves.
Tonight’s team sheet drop has never been so important.

I’d put it down to the defence being unsettled until February and missing Kamara up to that point. It caused havoc defensively as well as offensively. It really upset the dynamics of how we play. We did start to tighten up from February.

The crowd will be getting restless in the ground if he's not on it: and that's before kick-off against our Cry-ptonite!

How about, and this might be a wild idea, placing our trust in the men whose job it is to sign players?

That’s radical Dave….its  it like they’ll have more info on players / finances than the internet.

We’ll be where we are at 7pm tomorrow night

But the summer would be soooooooo boring without this thread

And the improve improvement in the “old” squad’s performance post Emery needs to be taken into account. We will have to utilise Malden more this season and Guessand is still unpacking his bags.

I really rate Maatsen and I’m sure he’s going to be an excellent addition. I don’t think anyone expected Digne to still be here or hit the levels of consistency that he achieved.

I’m not sure what’s happening to Malen though, something doesn’t feel right.
