🚨 Aston Villa make late move for No Juan.

Not pointed at you Kippax, but as a general observation I find the puns using foreign languages to say teams aren’t signing anyone brutally unfunny.

Leeds looking to take Buendia on loan rather than splash the cash. I think I'd tell them to do one. Farke's a big Emi B fan and they have the money.

Calling a Spanish player 'Costa Fortuna' is ALWAYS funny, though.

Fell out with my mate when Charlton signed Jorge Costa and Quinton Fortune in the 2000's. One of the papers had the headline "Charlton's defence Costa Fortune". My mate said it would work if they had a player called "A"....Charlton's defence Costa A Fortune"....he didn't get it.

With all the inflated prices these days I wonder when/if we'll ever be able to splash out £80-£100m on a player.

Aston Villa express interest in West Ham’s Lucas Paqueta

Aston Villa have expressed an interest in signing West Ham midfielder Lucas Paqueta before the transfer deadline.

Arranging a financial package, however, is very tough to do, with Villa working to comply with UEFA restrictions and the likely fee West Ham will demand is prohibitive.

Unai Emery is a big admirer of the 28-year-old, along with the club’s recruitment staff. Villa have explored terms of a deal but unless a solution can be found, an agreement is unlikely.

If Paqueta does not materialise, Villa are still in talks to sign Marco Asensio from Paris Saint-Germain. Personal terms are not thought to be an issue for the attacking midfielder yet any move has been protracted due to a hold up in agreeing a fee with the Champions League holders.

Emery said on Friday that he wants Villa to sign “two to three players” with an attacker and a versatile defender among the priorities.

Paqueta joined West Ham from Lyon in 2022 for an initial €43million plus €17m in potential bonuses.

He attracted interest from Manchester City in the summer of 2023, but a Football Association (FA) investigation into alleged betting breaches ended this.

The FA announced in July a regulatory commission had found the most serious charges of spot fixing against the Brazil international “to be not proven” and Paqueta, who denied all charges against him, will not face punishment.

Paqueta has made 123 appearances for West Ham, providing 20 goals and 14 assists.

He has started all three of his side’s fixtures this season and scored in Friday’s 5-1 loss to Chelsea.

His West Ham contract runs until 2027.

Elsewhere, Villa forward Zepiquendo Redmond is set to join Huddersfield Town on a season-long loan.

There are certain words that in a football context I literally never want to read again, and 'package' is right at the top of the list, along with 'project'.

Suspect the angst with these sorts of things is the package is probably more relevant for spiralling third party costs on agent fees and image rights. We pay quite a bit for those compared to others and its all SCR tallied up.

Is Paqueta any use off the ball? He seems to spend half his time whinging on the floor when we play them. Also worry about his belly flubber and lack of pace. Looks like he'd bloat like a fucker given another spell out injured. Don't gamble on a gambler. He's not a patch on his compatriot at Newcastle.

How do you know we pay more for the associated costs?
