I'd be very surprised we sold a player who Emery plays every game and very rarely takes off a few days before the window closes.

Quite - it almost certainly will happen, probably next summer. But it happening now would be disastrous on a number of levels.

It’s really sad to see posters admitting/justifying selling MR without deep reflection of why we might have to.

We’ve known the rules and they are the same for everyone, so don’t blame PSR no matter how unfair they might be.

The enforced sales of Jacob Ramsey and potentially someone else is because of a failed recruitment policy. A month or so ago, there’d be an uproar at that kind of statement, but now more and more fans are genuinely questioning the wisdom of sanctioning such high wages and loan fees on so many players who might not have been or might not be worth it.

Chelsea’s interest in Aston Villa midfielder Morgan Rogers is said to be “becoming serious” although they have been quoted with a fee of £80 million ($107.9 million). Tottenham Hotspur are also thought to be closely monitoring the situation. (Source: CaughtOffside)
£80mil.

Fuck off.

At least £100mil.

£80mil got you Antony at Man Utd a few years ago and he’s appalling.

I thought Monchi was bought in to identify and bring in really good talent, we could save some money there.

It’s a good job we flogged Duran
We’d be well up the creek without a paddle if we hadn’t.

Not pointed at you Kippax, but as a general observation I find the puns using foreign languages to say teams aren’t signing anyone brutally unfunny.

Not pointed at Kippax but quoting him on something exactly what you’re complaining about?

The whole transfer window this year is tedious, a bit of light humour isn’t a bad thing.

If we got £80m for Rogers and got 2 players in for £30m each (no idea who) would that be such a bad thing if they were decent? Or we could just play Male. And Guessand rather than buy them and stick them in a bin

Yes it would - selling Rogers now is really bad from a footballing point of view, and absolutely cataclysmic from an optics point of view. He’s just won Young Player of the Year, selling him - particularly this close to the end of the window - is basically saying we’ve tapped out. Also his value will only go up.

I do not, in any universe, want to sell Rogers, especially for £80m, but why on earth should optics matter? Who would we be telling that we'd tapped out, and what difference would it make if we somehow kept winning?

Well I’ve been doing them since the O’Leary years so yes they are very tedious.  I admit.

Optics absolutely matter - players, both internally, and externally, look at what clubs do and so do their agents. If Villa look like they are prepared to sell their star players - arguably the highest profile one right now - at the last minute of the transfer window it clearly gives the impression of a stepping stone team.

Well it was more Kippax’s post that prompted it in my mind - apologies if it seemed pointed, and noting your subsequent post Kippax, but I haven’t particularly noticed you doing it much. It was more a general observation.

And, saying his value is only going up is not really a good argument,  and playing Nostradamus.

Nobody knows.

At certain points in their careers, you could have said the same about Bailey, Diaby , Duran etc.

I think Bailey’s value dropped in his last year with us. Maybe we sold Duran and Diaby at their highest values even though plenty were against those sales.

I’m not in favour or against a sale. Unai just needs to decide what he wants to do.
