I suspect our finite spending power is being balanced and juggled according to availability. For example Asensio would come on loan if we bought someone else but would come permanently otherwise.

That's why nothing is done, we're getting all the pieces to fall into place.

Finish 12th and win the FA Cup and Europa and I'd be as happy as a pig in shit.

Agreed. Best season of my life, they would be. Instead we will prioritise finishing 9th and get dumped out of the cups early.

Wouldn't we all.

I’d be happy to write off this premier league season to give ourselves maximum firepower next year. When I say write off, I mean not worry about finishing top 7. Just win a trophy instead. We have 3 chances. It should be priority.

Strange time to sell Ramsey then.

Going to be a struggle to hold onto Rogers with a mid table or lower PL finish (Spurs 2024). Running through our squad and it's hard to escape the suspicion that many of our best players are either at or may have slightly past their peak. Rogers, Kamara, Maatsen (in theory anyway) should have another gear or two in them.

I get the feeling of some of our stalwarts being past their best of in danger of going stale. However, its been 2 games and its far too early to know if this is accurate.

I do think every good to team makes tweaks every year, 2 or 3 changes and its fairly obvious we really need this. Ramsey going hurts and seeing him come on for Newcastle last night, wasnt nice, but if Guessand pulls up trees, we’ll get over it. Likewise, a new winger/forward for Bailey/Watkins cover.

If incomings can’t happen, it is a major problem for the season.

Yup and herein lies the problem with the notion of a “season” off. Spurs might be able to do that, and get lucky with a trophy win. But we all know that Villa wouldn’t do that - just by the law of averages and our luck alone. If we ended up being around 17th losing every week the atmosphere around the club would horrendous, and you can guarantee players would be off in January.

Now, I don’t think for a second we’ll be that bad and I’m sure the first couple of games are just a combination of muddled thinking, uncertainty, and a bit of a tactical brain fade from Unai. But we need some additions to lift the mood and refresh the squad, and I think for us to win a trophy we’ll need momentum from a good league campaign.

You see I would suggest that our requirements in defence are of greater need than the attacking options you suggest.
This does show how much work the squad now needs.

Rumours of Barkley and Buendia going before the deadline now. We need some younger legs to come in and give us some ooooh alongside the guile of Asensio

John Townley (Bham Mail Villa journo) reporting that RB Leipzig are looking at Emi Buendia.

Think his book value is £7.5-9m. Wages £3.9m.
Not sure if Norwich have a sell-on clause, but as he was signed for £30m plus add-ons, I can't see them getting anything.

I'd be inclined to accept the offer, if real - providing it's sensible/acceptable.
Ran around and looked busy in the friendlies and also v Brentford, but he isn't really of the standard/ability that we're aiming for.

Take the money and use it to bring in somebody who will contribute and improve the squad.
