I can't believe we're in so much trouble financially. Has someone misinterpreted the figures with the accounts? Or is it simply confusion navigating PSR, SCR etc.,

We're not in trouble, we're managing it fine but it's a fine balancing act is all.

We're trying to play in the big boy's league and without the financial clout that they've got having been playing in it for years. We can't gatecrash like ManC and Chelski did because of these rules, but methodically we're improving. Commercially we're getting better, we've been in Europe for the past two years and are about to embark on our third consecutive campaign.

We've had a few results that haven't gone our way, and they were all big games, this season hasn't started great so everyone is feeling restless and disappointed but we're in better shape than we've been for a very long time.

That doesn't mean we shouldn't feel disappointed with the situaton, and that we want more; we've had a taste and we're sutied to it.

Maybe we are delaying any new signings until as late as possible to reduce the impact on the wages bill ?
Save a month or two in salaries by signing at the end of August rather than in July ?

Every little helps.

At a guess we wanted to get all of the sales done so we had a clear picture of exactly what we have to spend so we can make sure we don't breach the UEFA restrictions. With 3 completely different requirements to meet it's clearly a lot of admin work just to keep on top of everything and I reckon we won't risk fucking up and getting a ban from europe.

I’d be happy to write off this premier league season to give ourselves maximum firepower next year. When I say write off, I mean not worry about finishing top 7. Just win a trophy instead. We have 3 chances. It should be priority.

Finish 12th and win the FA Cup and Europa and I'd be as happy as a pig in shit.

Agreed. Best season of my life, they would be. Instead we will prioritise finishing 9th and get dumped out of the cups early.

Based on the first two games I’ll be happy staying up.

We're going to push the finances to the very limit in the hope that we can increase revenues to match.

It might be less stressful if we ensured we were comfortably within the financial rules but we'd probably have spent the last 2 seasons in mid-table.

Are we in better shape than we’ve been for a long time? I get the challenges with regards to the rules etc, but in pure footballing terms we’re not. Perhaps we will get over the hump and get to that better place, but as a team we’re stale.

🚨 NEW: Youri Tielemans has rejected the possibility to join Al-Ittihad — he’s very happy at Aston Villa.

Finish 16/17/th and win the Europa League and a place in the Champions League. It's been done before!

I agree, we went from mid table to almost making it with the additions of Rashford Asensio.
Now we are without Bailey and Ramsey with no back up for centre half with some of our better players past their prime.
We can not even beat a depleted Brentford.
