Isn't the question why hasn't Emery been able to find better players than those signed by his predecessors. I know he's tried but it hasn't really happened hence why they are still playing .

Unless he knew he could improve them and blend them in with his own. Rogers and Tielemans were Unai’s signings and they were excellent for the majority of last season.

Exactly. Isn’t it well known that Tielemans and Rogers were Unai’s picks?

Isn’t it more a case of mmm. (Monchi’s massive mistakes)

No. What I said was wait until the transfer window closes before you question the strategy....
We're two games in (2 ropey ones) on the back of a poor ending to last season. I think it's fair to ask a few questions given the amount of resources Emery has had .
7 of the 11 starters against Newcastle and Brentford were a combination of Bruce/Smith/Gerrard signings. In Emery 6 transfer windows as Villa manager we are £10.7 mill in the black.
Are you absolutely sure hechss had that much resource comparatively?
We are due to Duran (deal effectively done pre Emery) , Diaby , Luiz, Ramsey, Chuck, and that other kid who went for £20m sales . That's a lot of income, replaced by the likes of Onana, Ian, Malen . Jury out I'd say .
The jury is out because he’s had to make sales on a number of our better players, still use a lot of players that have been bought by managers going back over the ladt 7 years, but still managed to get us into the CL and Europa league. How the f**k is the jury still out.

So my only conclusion now, other than you being completely dense, is its me, Im missing something that you can see and I cant.

Based on absolutely nothing.  Ramsey didn’t want to go.  Emery didn’t want him to go.  Monchi insisted he had to go.  Cue player unrest and shit start to season.

Monchi insisted he went? I’d think it was more a case of him going or someone who was more integral coupled with his contract running down.

Based on what I've read and watched on podcasts, Ramsey was offered a new contract months ago. His agents advised him to hold fire while he was in and out of the team. Villa players were told/knew at the end of last season that we would have to sell at least one name-player. Martínez was presumably emboldened by this as his agent has been in discussions with Yanited since early this year.

JJ also knew that he was someone the club would reluctantly consider bids for given the rules make him more valuable than other options.

Over the summer he found-out West Ham and Newcastle (and clubs in Europe, apparently) were prepared to pay him more than we are. He's still got ambitions of playing for England, is probably in a Whatsapp group with the likes of Gordon (Gordon Ramsey!), Murphy and others who tell him Uncle Eddie loves him and will get him in the England squad. He also has the possibility of Champions League football and a potential run of games to prove himself a regular which isn't exactly the case at Villa where he hasn't been settled as a regular starter for quite a while.

Villa do try and persuade him to sign, hoping that we can sell Bailey, Buendia etc. to make up the difference but his head is turned and it's too late. We reluctantly agree, taking some pressure off getting good money for Bailey (hence sanctioning his loan move).

Don't believe it.

🚨 Aston Villa are showing interest in West Ham midfielder Lucas Paqueta.
@MailSport

But thats the kinda profile of player we need. A clever technical ball player
I thought we needed pace and he’s not that….just saying.
Certainly do or need Malen and Guessand both playing but Paqueta would probably play the No 10 role

The current feeling is a culmination of various points all coming to a head now

- poor displays - have been going on a while
- cup semi final debacle
- final day bottle job v United
- more pricing increases
- PSR/SCR boring us all
- Summer activity (or lack of)

Will see how we sit in a weeks time but do think it’s a very very fair point to question things.

For me the biggest Q is Monchi and I’m sure that may increase over the season. How we’ve used our (limited) funds has to be a question

For me spending money on PSR swaps, Ned, Garcia, Ozcan - all questionable
Then over £100m on Onana, Malen and Maatsen who all have been more “squad” players for us that first team starters (and for that money they should be in best 11)

Said for a while the club were playing it risky with the increasing fan costs all the time. It’s one thing getting “away with it” while sun is shining but as soon as a blip in road comes then things like that are going to cause friction

Side note - I’m looking forward to the cup draw end of the week

Thing is to put it all on Monchi isn’t fair. It is well documented that it is a committee approach along with DV. Monchi finds players that they all discuss and I’m sure he’s not doing anything without Emery signing off. So if the targets acquired aren’t up to standard be it starters or squad additions that’s on all of them.

And as for questions on Emery we would all be beyond crackers to want him gone or want anyone else. He has propelled our club to a position none of us could have imagined 3 years ago. But that doesn’t mean we cannot questions things as fans. Or not be disappointed at certain tactics, outcomes in games, performances or tactics. Long term over the season I’m pretty sure we will be fighting for a top 6 spot. But I agree a lot of the frustration is on the back of a few major events and failures. Let’s just hope the next week is productive because Emery deserves to have a squad he can do something with. We are short in that regard as it stands.

And the moral of the story is…?
