I guess for 6 clubs spending £50m is pretty insignificant.

For us, trying to get into the 6, it feels like it has to work and I am not sure it has.

I don’t think it does. Both will expect to play given the fees/wages yet neither is significantly better than the player that has the shirt.

Last season away at Southampton we had a really similar game, albeit they had nothing to defend. Asensio despite missing pens, provided the spark to change the game and find the right pass. We badly lacked movement and invention today. Asensio and Jackson would both be welcome signings, but fuck me we have to accept that dropping Rogers is allowed.

When we go behind against teams that park the bus, we really haven’t got what it takes to break them down.

Our passing and movement aren't quick enough to pull them out of position and create opportunities.

They just set up as a 5-4-1 and will try and get a 2nd on the break if we lose concentration or possession. At the moment we haven't got and pace down the flanks.

Too many players playing well below their best levels and we haven't got alternatives.

Monchi & Co have got a lot to do next week - PSR/SCR permitting- we've nothing left in the cupboard to sell.

The squad is lacking in quality and depth.

Can we criticise Emery? He  performed wonders with a poorer quality squad and took us from 16th to 4th.

But have other coaches sussed him out - do we need to evolve tactically?

Yes we do.
Move the ball quickly and get some pace into the squad, and that includes in central defence as well as out wide.
There’s no doubt that without it we will struggle and we have a week to sort it out.

I'd be looking to hijack evertons bid for Dibbling amongst others, the toffees wont be offering much wages especially if they're paying Grealo all his. I'd probably even take a punt on Jayden Sancho. Typical Villa letting rash, Marco, Ramsey and Bailey go and expecting things to be cushdy. It's a clown show just like when Big Ron flogged all the wingers in one summer window.

Rogers not being subbed does rile me, and I can't say I'd be best pleased if I were another player seeing that he seems close to undroppable.

Whatever happens, we need creativity, pace and width, otherwise this season is going to be a long one.

The next 9-10 days will define the season, without 2-3 quality additions we are a cup team who will struggle over the season to compete in the league as we did the last 2 years.  Both Newcastle & Brentford nullified us and we had v little answer.

Monchi needs to be busy busy busy

If we don't bring a few in it's hard to see us being more than midtable. The bench today wasn't great and that was with 1 player out. Once we hit our usual 4 or 5 out then Unai would be coming out of retirement.

dropping Rogers and McGinn needs to happen - Unai's shoe-horning them into the team at every point
