I think a creative forward, winger, and centre half are all really important.

I only say defender is priority as we've lost Konsa for three games (or is it one)?

1 and I think the creative player is probably highest priority for me. I really hope Asensio is lined up and we were just waiting for our sales/loans out to go.

How is it that Forest can spend c.£100m last weekend? - are they exempt from UEFA / EPL financial rules?

OUT
Olsen
Asensio
Rashford
Disasi
Bailey
Ramsey

IN
Bizot
Guessand

Need
Asensio
Jackson (or similar)
RCB

And even that would leave us a player down on last year... Which would work for UEFA reg I guess.

It's not about Gerrard, I don't think we have the players to consider 2 x 8s not to mind 3. When tried previously under Gerrard it was a disaster. Tonali etc aswell as being good footballers are also good athletes.

Rogers doesn't have the mobility for midfield and struggles out wide already. McGinn maybe but he's 30 now and it seems Emery has doubts about his stamina to finish 90+mins in his current position. He was completely lost under Gerrard in that 3. Barkley as an 8 against midfielders who can run would be lost, he couldn't do it 5 or 6 years ago. Tielemans doesn't have the mobility either. Onana, maybe, he doesn't show for the ball in current setup so couldn't be any worse.

Emery went ultra conservative at the weekend but put Martinez back in goal and Tielemans in midfield and that's a big improvement on our passing from deep, especially with Kamara at RCB with Konsa out. Rogers and Watkins down the middle should give a shaky Brentford lots to think about.

Of course it's about Gerrard, his tactic was to push both fullbacks high and use 2 of the midfielders to cover in behind them and create a huge fucking void in the middle of the park. That's why we got overrun in there. Now we have a completely different set of players with a completely different coaching setup but you keep referring back to what didn't work 3 years ago.

As for playing 2 8s, we already do, right now, and have for a while. Pretty much every time we go forward we keep 4 players 'deep', the CBs and 2 from the midfield and fullbacks. We then tend to have 4-5 pushing on and 1-2 'in the hole' (queue the gif) to recycle. Both of the main midfielders are free to push into the box as part of that attack though, and we've seen all of Onana, Kamara and Tielemans popping up in and around the box all through pre-season as a result. It actually started being a common thing from about February, and heat maps of Kamara's positioning show it pretty clearly.

Even on Saturday we gave them licence to join, it just didn't happen much because the ball wasn't sticking up top in the first half and then we were down to 10 men for the last 25minutes. Even still I reckon I could find 4-5 examples from the spell after half time where one of Onana or Kamara was clearly pushing forward and joining the attack.

Add to the outs Kaine Kesler-Hayden – £3.5m to Coventry City

Philippe Coutinho – Undisclosed fee to Vasco da Gama

Rico Richards – Undisclosed fee to Port Vale

Kortney Hause – Released

I don’t think it matters how many, it’s how much they cost and how much they earn.

I think we would have to let 3 or 4 players go just to cover Rashfords salary now, for instance.

and they're apparently going to bring Dougie back to England as well!

Here's the net spend/profit on transfers  so far in the window according to Transfermarkt (probably not 100% accurate, but it was the best I could find).

Biggest spend first, down to highest profit last.

ManU  -€230m
Arsenal -€216m
Liverpool  -€143m
Man City -€118m
Sunderland -€116m
Toon -€115m
Spurs -€110m
Burnley  -€91m
Everton-€82m
Leeds -€79m
Forest-€53m
Chelsea -€48m
West Ham -€19m
Palace -€2m
Fulham -€0.5m
Villa  +€15m
Brighton +€42m
Bournemouth +€152m

Brentford and Wolves must be in the plus category as well.

I also don't get how Forest are spending so much. As they weren't in Europe last season, I guess they don't have to have a positive balance as there isn't anything to compare against? There must be something they are going to fall foul of.
