Aston Villa v Chelsea Post-Match Thread

I think one of the most impressive things was how we got stronger as the game went on given we had 3 days to recover and they had 8.

A much needed tonic - at last, a few things went our way.

Agree with those who had McGinn down as MoM - he knitted everything together for us. And if I'm honest, it had been a while.

Tyrone is a warrior, but he is really struggling - you do wonder how much more he has to give. Hope it's nothing too serious. I would say, Torres can't come back soon enough, but...

Like others, I was bowled over by Bogarde (and have been since I saw him in the Walsall pre-season friendly, playing a similar position on the right). Given his age and experience, I don't think we can be expecting performances like that week in, week out (especially as he doesn't really have the physique), but I was impressed above all by his composure on the ball under pressure, his two footedness, his stewardship of the ball (he must have had a very high successful pass rate - stattos?), and even his pace, which I hadn't previously noted.

You can also tell he's having a great time - just look at him when we score.

Ollie managed to get a few good attempts off (the one off his left foot would have been a screamer 6 inches the other side of the post), but was unusually scruffy in possession I felt, and caused us to miss a few decent opportunities.

Rashford gave us more penetration, and that made a difference. You can't argue with two goals, though I wasn't quite as impressed with Asensio as others - he flitted in and out a bit for me.

Maatsen has a real issue keeping crosses out, with pacy attackers dropping a shoulder and getting past him far too easily. It's annoying because (i) he's quick himself, and (ii) it looks like a positional thing that should really be coached out of him. Digne, though slower, is a much smarter defender. That being said, I think the full 90 minutes will do his confidence some good.

Funnily enough the one who got murdered down the Blues in the seventies was a black geezer as well, a Rasta from Small Heath. The bloke who did it was from Chelmsley. He’s dead now too, I knew his brother.

Just catching up on the Man U fans thoughts after the day's matches. This was in a thread about our second goal, primarily focused on Rashford.

No disrespect but the fact we have "allowed" Aston Villa to surpass us squad wise is a joke. More so considering they only got promoted back to the PL a few seasons ago is a joke and shows how far we have fallen.

Villa have more ambition and higher standards than we do.

Absolute insanity the level of quality depth they have in attack while clubs like us and Arsenal just sat on our asses in January.

Not that any of thier tossers opinions on football matter but that is warming the heart stuff

We have an African Chelsea fan at our place, I think he comes from over your way as well so might be the same fella. I've never asked him why but I'm guessing it is down to them having Drogba (and also quite a few Africans) back in his formative years. The only other one I knew off was Ukrainian and was school mates with Shevchenko back in the day.

What he does have that I never really acknowledged previously is an incredibly gifted football ability.

Just watched motd. I'm baffled as to why we didn't get a penalty when Sideshow Bob pulled Bogarde back denying him a certain goal. Wtf is var even there for if they don't think that's a penalty? Then I watched Everton v Man U and the var eejits overturned a penalty decision for a clear pull on Ashley Youngs shirt. Young did dive theatrically but when they sent the ref to the screen they decided not to show the angle that clearly shows the pull on his shirt. I fucking despise VAR.

I’ve been saying for weeks it not corruption and its incompetence, however after the Everton and our penalty incidents, it’s hard to say it isn’t some kind of biased or corrupt view.
