Squares by user names
« on: February 03, 2025, 03:32:31 PM »
Why do some of us have the little square by our user name filled in whilst others are left empty?

Filled in - online. Empty - offline. If that's what you're referring to.

Well I did wonder that, but I'm online and mine is blanked out. Maybe mine isn't filled in on my laptop as I know I'm online!

There is a tickbox in your profile to show people you are online or not.

Didn't realise that - thanks!

In the Users Online section at the bottom of the home page, why does Martyn Smith's name appear in the same dark red colour as the mods that are online? In the past, his name used to appear in dark blue (unlike any other user, moderator or otherwise). Martyn isn't Martin, is he?

Not just for you, happens for me. I at first thought it was the text colour change links sometimes do when you have clicked on them so ignored it.

There is a slight difference in online user colour between GM's (#800000) & Moderators (#660033)

There might be, but Martyn always has the colour of a Mod as shown below. (Dave W included to show colour is closer to his then anyone elses, Ian. is a GM and looks as black as anyone else).

There are colours set, but the software seems to have a mind of its own when applying them!

Although we are back to Martyn. It seems he is somehow linked to weblink defaults if he was blue as mentioned initially by BV and then orange after we clicked on him once. My main concern is if someone new to the site sees him blue/orange compared to other people and messages him thinking he is a mod like DW and JoeC. (although mods look claret on closer inspection, it is close enough not to notice.)

I have reset the colours especially as as you said unless looking closely maroon/black are hard to spot.
So colours are now; blue=admin, green=mods, red=muppets, black=all others.
But l cannot g'tee this will be the case for all!

Martin is the only Muppet red now. I can see a difference between him and other muppets is that when I click on his profile, it just shows Golden Muppet but if I click on any several others I know are GM's, it shows member/golden muppet and standard users just see member.
So I think the errant member is the reason only him shows red.

It does seem that ALL GM's but him are in the same boat though. As it doesn't seem to affect any other status for GM, and to save the forum looking too garish, I would personally just leave golden muppets as black the same as members and only have the colour differences as for mods/admins. Of course if you want the colour change to be an adverisement for GM (or other reasons), do as you wish.

Also, apologies for causing uneccesary work, it was more an observation of a weird difference and not a please sort it now demand.
