It all starts again on TV tonight. Caroline Dubois might be interesting.

And very unlucky. Meanwhile we have Steed Woodall from Birmingham fighting for a British title and any idea of wanting the local man to win is overshadowed by the certain knowledge that the Proper Brummies will claim him as one of theirs.

Hope he has retired for good, no point in a fight with AJ as no title would be involved. AJ should do the same considering the losses he has built up recently.

It seems Boxing, more than any other sport, is where the participant announces his retirement, then ends up later returning to his sport.

Yeah, it's the least reliable retirement out there. I fully expect him to be back at some point, even if against some youtube twat in 10 years.

Fury has even said without boxing his life is meaningless so what does he do now? I expect if he does indeed retire he goes off the rails again before returning.

He needs to go into promoting i think or setup up a school to help young boxers

Any boxer announcing their retirement should be banned from title fights for two years. Now, onto tonight's entertainment.

I suspect a lot of posters (if not all) who look in this thread may have seen this already. I was going to post it in the Stuff on TV thread, but given the sadness and gravity of the story I think it deserves to go here. Steve Bunce spoke about it on bbc morning news a few weeks ago. I remember Johnny being touted on TV, just before the World Title fight (maybe Wogan ? not sure it aired in 1980 , so memory is hazy) and then getting dripped feed news for days/weeks after the fight about his health.

It was a tragedy, and showed the best and the dark side of boxing. The dignity shown by his family and by Lupe Pintor was incredible. I've also said it before but Hugh McIlvanney's story is the finest bit of sports writing I've ever read.

Agreed.

Hugh Mcllvaney is probably the best sports writer ever; his understanding of boxing and his ability to communicate that understanding are unmatched in my experience.

Here it is:

"It is his tragedy that he found himself articulate in such a dangerous language."

I know it's been said many a time, but what an utter nob Jake Paul is:

https://www.bbc.com/sport/boxing/articles/c4g9v34mgpro

I assume there would be something in the contract that Canelo would have to pull his punches or something along those lines. Or does Paul genuinely think he's a boxer?
