Why did Martinez get booked at halftime?

He pushed Joe in the chest.

There were a few verbals going on, but Emi was the only one who got handsy.
Not the best thing to do because it cut down his leeway for his standard late game antics
And Haaland pushed Emi but no card. Akanji committed about 5 fouls and at least 3 on Rogers but no card. Inconsistent refereeing.

Kind of surprised Rogers is on 4, he shouldn’t be playing where he does.
Why not?

My sentence was a grammatical disaster.  I'm just saying that I'm surprised he's on 4 yellows already.

Not really. We try to press from the front. He might be overenthusiastic in his challenges when pressing and / or being sold a dummy and getting frustrated. Once the player is passed him, any foul could be seen as deliberate to stop play from forming. Also I think at least one of them was moaning about a decision.

Popped over to Blue Moon to see what was being said, this is totally delusional;

"The problem with playing “high risk, high reward football” is that when it isn’t ultra precise we’re open to basic grunt tactics, The number of matches where the other teams just sit and wait for us to make a mistake is like watching us play lower league teams in a cup game. At the moment we are beating ourselves"

They had one tactic all afternoon and that was a long diagonal to Grealish, who then failed to deliver a telling ball all afternoon except for the cross to Gvardiol. Yesterday like last season they were out thought and out fought.
They're the opinions of an entitled oaf who probably never went anywhere near Maine road and thinks they're a big club - one of the first to disappear when they get relegated to league 2 for the 115.

I dunno, getting our good, strong, fast players to run at, and pass the ball around their slow, lazy, mediocre players and kick the ball hard past their goalkeeper is pretty basic, page-one-of-the-manual  stuff.

Pity for them that their manager didn't pick up on it quicker.

Quite. It also doesn't make any sense.

'Sitting back and waiting for us to make mistakes' (if that's what they think we did) is not the same as adopting a 'grunt tactic'.

Lambert's Villa were the best team of the PL era - the only issue was opposition sides adopting 'grunt tactics' and exploiting our mistakes, the bastards. Just think how good we could've been if the opposition had kicked the ball into touch every time we made a mistake.

Just sounds like every West Brom fan when they were managed by Mowbray.

It’s apparent that they have kept the squad age over the last couple of seasons which is probably more to do with PSR than anything else. They have not bought particularly well and let 2 of the best English players slip through their hands. Add to this the usual amount of injuries because it seems that all squads go through this and you have what we saw on Saturday.

I think it's more to do with Guardiola not being the elite manager that everyone thinks he is. I'm no authority on his career but he's always had the best players possible everywhere he's been. Their main tactic on Saturday was to "surprise" Emery by starting Jack and pumping the ball to him at every opportunity. I won't go as far as to call him a fraud but until he goes somewhere where he doesn't have the luxury of playing FIFA 2025 in real life he's proved nothing in my view. But I really doubt we'll see him try. He will retire or become the Spain head coach.

Yeah, he basically had about half of the Spain squad, when they had arguably the best international team of all time, plus Messi. Then managed Bayern Munich. Anyone on here would win the league with them, then managed Man City when they had unlimited spending power. He's never had the slightest adversity in his entire career. Until now. Shame.

I think he is a brilliant coach, evidently.

He's not only won a truck load of trophies but he has changed the way football is played everywhere, to a large degree.

But he has weaknesses as a manger that were protected by having the best player in the world (by some stretch) in his first job, and all the riches in his subsequent jobs. He's not had to develop his skills in times of adversity because he's never had to face it, and when it comes he's lost.

This my issue with shiny new managers that have had great success initially, that's all well and good but what happens when the shit hits the fan?

Just about to write the same. Man City had a dream run, spent a fortune that no other club could match and then got protection from the league preventing other clubs competing with them. They were a poor side before the sports washing and i for one am hoping they completely fall apart.

New England manager excepted, of course.

You could argue he has had the best player in the world since 2020 which is partly why they won 4 titles on the trot and almost everything in 22/23. And whose absence is now felt.

Saying Guardiola isn't an elite manager is borderline insane. I agree that there are caveats that a lot of people prefer not to acknowledge, but he's absolutely, obviously a brilliant coach.

I doubt even Pep could overcome the Kane curse.
