We're selling the stadium lights to the owners for £20m.
The differences in peoples attitudes to this is all about personality and nobody is “wrong” - whether you’re super optimistic or nervous.
This situation is very favourable and quite a lot needs to go against us for us not to finish top 5. Therefore I suspect we’ll do it quite comfortably, but because of my personality and Villa’s previous failures I’ll have a degree of nerves until it is done.
Also, and this situation is clearly way better and less likely to go awry, but I’m sure there were people last season when it came down to the Man Utd game citing how awful they were, how they had nothing to play for etc and it was pretty much done.
Massively agree with you first two paragraphs. Third one was at best 50/50 chance...and I think we needed results else where too, which we obviously had, but didn't do the business. If people were claiming it was done when we were outside the CL places and headed to sodding Old Trafford...well, what can you say. This is different.
But people who are nervous are right to be. As confident as I feel, it only really takes one bad weekend, which with all the teams below us probably just means a loss to Fulham, and people will be worried again.
From memory, didn't most of us expect Newcastle to beat Everton at home so regardless of how confident we were of beating Yanited, we still knew it was out of our hands ?
Yeah, I remember thinking Newcastle would match or better our result. Not like that, mind.
Mayday weekend. But it's already done.
Indeed. I ordered my claret and blue ink, and a big rubber stamp that says '
QUALIFIED',
weeks ago.

I think the reasonable consensus would have been that it was more likely Chelsea would fail to win at Europe so that would have been the more plausible route into Europe in the unlikely event that we had bothered our arses in a football match in Manchester, for once.
Ok ….Do you want to bet against us?
The more I hear about Chelsea, their ownership, the vision of their ownership, the more important it seems to me to lock them out of the CL. So, 'mon we'reselves, but also 'mon the Brighton, 'mon the Bournemouth, 'mon the Evertron, and, even, to a very very limited extent, [closes eyes, deep breath] 'mon the 'Pool.

It would be fantastic if Chelsea ended up in the UEFA Conference League. A competition designed to give small nations and small clubs a higher profile and increased revenue. But for Premier League clubs an absolute pain in the arse.
With all the permutations this year about finishing positions, gonna be difficult to know what finishing position to avoid!!

Liverpool doing well makes Chelsea more likely to qualify.

As I say, a very very limited extent.

Not if the "limited extent" that he's talking about is Liverpool pumping Chelsea in a couple of games time.
Even then, there are some scenarios where Chelsea losing that game makes them more likely to qualify. Likewise, Brentford could go to Anfield on the last day knowing they need to lose.
Which would therefore definitely count outside the 'very very limited extent' range.
I mean, there are scenarios where we finish behind Brighton aren't there?
I’m pretty much sure we’ll qualify
but it don’t stop me worrying
