6th at best. Might be back in the conference come May. Nothing about us gives me any confidence at the moment. West Ham, Forest and Spurs are all fighting for their lives.

I'd honestly rather not bother with the conference league.  Europa again would be better than nothing, but after having a seemingly unassailable point advantage, it would still be a bit disappointing.  Most  other fans would say it's our level though I'm sure.

I like the fact that, following other results, it is still in our hands on both fronts. I'd be very surprised if the top 3 finish in any other order than the current, given form, and with that it's a race for 4th, in which we currently hold the whip hand. We just have to be beating the likes of Lille and West Ham at home. If we don't, we don't deserve CL

I’d say all our rivals for top 5 have tricky fixtures this weekend.

Man U away at Bournemouth
Chelsea away at Everton
Liverpool away at Brighton.

Admittedly we’ve got one as well with a rejuvenated West Ham at VP.

I've been saying for weeks that 64/65 points would be enough to finish top 5. After the weekends results, 63 could well be enough now - both Liverpool and Chelsea would have to win 5 out of their last 8 to get there, and with them playing each other it effectively means one of them has to win 5 out of 7.  Along with other games they have against Manure and Man City in the mix, we just have to focus on winning the next games in front of us.

4 wins out of 8 games is what we need.  I'd back Unai to achieve that.

We are imploding like Forest did last season. I remember chap on radio, I think Goldstein it was, said when we were second and winning every game Villa will fall away and finish sixth. Sadly we are on the way to proving those who doubted us absolutely right.

We aren't 2024/25 Forest, we are 1998/99 Villa.

Did he predict our midfield being destroyed or was he just being an arse?

We've fallen apart because we lost Kamara, Tielemans and McGinn. I assume that hadn't happened when people like that chirped up.

It's a point so many are missing.  Yes, all teams have injuries, but any team losing it's 3 most influential midfielders is going to stutter.   Imagine Arsenal without Rice, Zubimendi and Odegaard for a run of 10-12 consecutive matches.

Yes, we SHOULD be able to cope better with injuries to key players, and our 10-game form is atrocious, but the reality is our squad isn't good enough to handle the loss of our three most influential midfielders for any period of time.  Our results should have been better than they have been, but I'm also not surprised our form has dropped off.

No one has a crystal ball, but if Kamara, Youri and SJM has all managed to avoid injury, I think we'd still be in with an outside chance of the title.

Of course, but no one is saying that form shouldn’t have dropped off are they?

I’ve said this before, but I think with everyone fit “par” would be competing for the last Champions League spot. In reality, when everyone was fit we were over performing and that put us in the title race. Since the 3 midfield injuries occurred I think we’ve fallen off more than we should - the remaining squad is probably mid-table, but our form is bottom 3. Fortunately, because we were so good earlier the position remains salvageable and we could net out slightly above par and get a Champions League spot (via the league). But the contingency we built up is pretty much gone, so we need to stop being rubbish like we have been of late.
