They're league champions, have a far stronger squad than us as the rules are designed to ensure, and have finished above us all but once this century. It's hardly fanciful to think they have a a good chance of finishing above us. Not sure why you get so irked whenever anyone is less than exuberant about our chances.

If you think a side with 3 wins in 2 months is a monster to be scared of then go for it. Just don't expect everyone to agree.

Again, really weird. "A monster to be scared of", what silliness. People are going to talk about potential Champions League Qualifiers in a thread called "Will we qualify for CL?".

And I haven't stopped them. It's almost as though you don't like someone not being worried that a mediocre Liverpool will catch us.

I don't expect anyone to be worried or scared. I think it's really weird when someone gets so upset about someone presenting an alternative view. "A monster to be scared of", LOL.

A lot of the alternative views do seem to be unnecessarily pessimistic and irrational though.

Brummies are supposed to be pessimistic.

If you're going to puff them up with history and what they did last season, then it does seem like you're intending for them to cast a shadow greater than a spawned 97th minute offside win against Forest really ought to cast. But then you have people making arguments for why a side competing with Derby County will inevitably take points of us, so the disease appears commonplace.

Its weird really, as there's not a chance Unai thinks this way and you'd all have been shipped out long ago as players for lacking the mental fortitude to withstand playing at the sharp end of the league.

I'm not the one saying people are "irked" by a different opinion. Liverpool are mediocre. They've won againt the top 8 twice this season. They've won 1 point more than us in the last 10, a stretch that some think is us having the wheels coming off. Quite why you don't like someone pointing out that a side behind us is behind us because thet don't win very often is a bit weird.

Fenerbache was a hard place to go and we never win at Newcastle either, immediately springs to mind.

I don't agree with them being mediocre, they won the league last season, they're hardly going to have a Leicester-style decline in the intervening period.

I think Liverpool and Man U will finish above us, though I would fancy us to stay above Liverpool if we are still clear by the time McGinn/Tielemans return if we can avoid any other catastrophic injuries in the meantime.

I think we will finish above Chelsea so long as we (at least) maintain our points advantage after playing them with us having a much "easier" looking fixture than them beforehand.

I don't think any of the teams currently below Liverpool will finish above us.

So, "yes", is my answer to the question the OP posed.

Last season has no bearing on this one though. Maybe they will go on a tear to the end of the season but there's very little evidence they will based on the first 27 games.

I think we'll finish 4th, we never finish 3rd and ManU have got their shit together since clown Amorim was binned off.

Yes, it really all boils down to this.

Had we not lost our big three, I'd say we would be seriously challenging for the title.

As it is, our season is going to hinge on McGinn and Tielemans' powers of recovery.

When you consider how many late goals Liverpool have needed this season, they're punching above their weight being in the top 10.
