There's 13 games left, Liverpool are 8 behind and have taken 7 points from their last 7. They're shit, and don't even have an entire midfield out injured as an excuse, they're just shit.

They need to be more concerned about Brentford than us.

So, despite all the doomsters and gloomsters, and the collective wailing and gnashing of teeth last night; after Liverpool lost today we've ended up one point further away from sixth spot than we were on Friday.

Villa            47pts GD +9
Liverpool    39pts GD +5

I’m positive we’re in a good spot and today’s result helps - but I’d still rather some people didn’t try to do everything to tempt fate.

It's so done we should come out to the CL music on Weds.

Other way of looking at is they are due a good run.

They've won 6 league games since September, they're shit.

But you do get the sense that some decent form isn't far away, with Wirtz improving especially.

That said, looking at their fixture list, I'd be pretty surprised if they overhauled us.

Save that for the Liverpool game when they finish 6th. With fireworks for Slot as well of course.

I’m confident about the CL still. Emery’s a great coach and is put a tremendous amount of faith in him (especially after the start of this season, which could’ve sunk many a manager).

Still 13 games to go, still not definite. But we’re in a really good place.

I agreed with the general sentiment on her a few weeks ago, that for us to miss out on CL, our form had to drop to that of a mid-table team (it has), and that the three behind us probably had to have close to title-winning form (2 of them have, with Man U and Chelsea both now having won four on the bounce).

Thankfully Liverpool are still proving to be hugely inconsistent.  However, I would HATE to have to go to Man City on the last day with them still capable of overhauling us, so we can call it 8 points gap to 6th, but in my head I'm treating it like 5, because of that final game at City. And we play Liverpool the week before.

Given the way we lost out on goal difference last season, I'm not sure I could take another final day drama where we need a result away from home in Manchester...

We could really do with a couple of back-to-back wins sooner rather than later...

Final day, 5 mins to go and it's 0-0. Other scores mean a ManC win gives them the title, a Villa win gives us CL, a draw means both miss out. Now that would be fun.

I'd prefer a final day where we've already secured CL football, but Citeh need a win to pip Arsenal to the title. Unai, get the deckchairs out!

If it comes down to needing something away at Citeh it’s not happening. Fortunately I think we’ll have dealt with it beforehand.
