Nottingham Forest vs Aston Villa Pre-Match Thread
« on: December 11, 2024, 08:35:10 AM »
Saturday 14th December, 5.30pm

Martinez
Cash
Konsa
Mings
Maatsen

Onana
Kamara
McGinn
Tielemans

Watkins
Rogers

Mings better than Pau to deal with Wood. Much as Duran deserves another start I reckon he would get more joy out of Murillo and Milenkovic after 60 minutes of Watkins stretching them a bit.

1-1

Is Onana likely to be fit?

He's been on the bench for the last two games, so I assume he's available at the very least. If not him, then Barkley.

edit - because for all the "Duran deserves a start" talk, that's now three important goals for Barkley in the last eleven games, which is actually more than Duran has. So I guess the same shout could be made for him too.

Hoping there’s no CL hangover and worried about their fast and direct style.

I think I’d give Mings a start here. Unsure about Watkins/Duran.

Our performance here last season was amongst the most insipid and weak that I can recall.

Hoping for better this time around, and the signs were good last night, we attacked and controlled in a manner that we have got used to under this Manager and need it to continue. Mings to come in to the back line for me to counter the threat of Woods, and I think Emery will definitely change things up again. A tight win.

1-2

We need to be giving these a bit of a slap down, I've no beef with Forest but their results have become annoyingly good.

Expecting a physical battle.  As ever, take our chances and we’ll probably win.

Cash on the Wing again? Played well last night and will be motivated against his former club.

Imagine Mings may play, to counter the threat of Wood in the air.

Is Digne out? If not he's a cert to start. With Watkins limping off last night Duran will surely start. Think he deserves a start in a big game for us in any case.

Emery hasn't tried Tielemans further forward yet this season that I recall but that seems the obvious switch with Ramsey and Bailey out, McGinn to the right Rogers left and one of Barkley or Onana next to Kamara.

Is Digne out?

No, don't think so. And I expect you're right, that Digne will start. Just in the way I'd line up, if we're making the midfield more solid and Mings comes in for Pau then the full-backs would become more important for attacking.

And Murillo and Milenkovic are both enormous, so I think Maatsen getting in behind and cutting the ball back is more likely to be useful than Digne floating crosses to the back post.

Next four really do shape our season 4 tough games

A Forest
