Emery has clearly thought, "fuck it. It's only Southampton"

Surprised Barkley didn't get a start though in that case.

I don't believe it to be this way at all. Everyone needs minutes, have to manage load and also Duran and maatsen need a start for us to really see how they are and integrate them further
That's kind of my point. Everyone needs minutes except Barkley apparently. He must be a little pissed off seeing the rest of the supporting act get a start whereas it's just business as usual for him.

In fairness, Barkley was abysmal when he came on in midweek

Think I'm correct in saying this is only Durans 2nd Premier start.
The other being Palace away last game of the season.

Oh and konsa at right back always works.

Statistically proven or something. No need at all for the Konsa/Carlos axis of chaos to be selected at home to Soton.

We have to be able to rotate against shit teams like this and still win.

Yep, he was. Kind of backs up his need for minutes though

Wasn’t that our first choice defence against Bayern?

Nope.

My bad. Digne started v Bayern.

Got mixed up with Bologna.

Started the 1-1 against West Ham last season too.

I think we will miss Mings aerial strength today

Aren't their attackers all about 5ft 6?

Paul onuachu is 6,7

Given he's not in their squad, it's probably not worth playing Mings just to counter that non-existent threat is it?

That wasnt the question though was just pointing out they do have a very tall striker whether he is in the squad or not

Also wouldnt it be good to have a bit of height for set pieces? Id have given mings 45 mins today but can understand if he is being rested for champions  league

Well the "question" was whether we'd miss Mings' height in today's game.

I'm not worried about how Torres deals with James Beattie or Rickie Lambert either.

Can't see it being tactical to be honest, more that we have 3 games in a week.  I think Leipzig is a pretty big game midweek given the big advantage finishing in the top 8 brings.

Our finishing eleven is likely to be 50% different from our starting eleven.

Lots of changes but the difference in this and a cup game line up is

1- there’s a load of strength on the bench which isn’t always the case in cup games

2- mentality, it’s a premier league game and they will treat it as such,
whereas there’s a can’t be arsed attitude that comes out for the domestic cups because we think we’re better than we actually are
