Aston Villa v Southampton Pre-Match Thread
« on: December 05, 2024, 05:59:40 AM »
Well, I've only started on of these and we won so here we go.

Could really do with a clean sheet, as for all the "best keeper in the world" plaudits, it was one shot, one goal for Brentford and our goals against is unbefitting a top side.

That and we still have a minus goal difference to sort out. We could really do with our subs making a positive contribution in this one too.

Think Mings has to start again and we can play Torres against Leipzig, as Europe tends to be where he has his best form.

After this we face Forest, Man C115y, Newcastle and Brighton in the league as well as Leipzig in a crucial CL game, so this simply has to be 3 points.

Same team as yesterday and a routine 2-0 win. That should be enough for top 6 and what a difference a week makes.

I vote Villa win. Well I would if I hadn't been disenfranchised.

Really hard to argue against playing the same side given how we played for most of the game. Hoping we can rest players in the second half before the Leipzig game.

Only thing is can Mings do 2 matches in 4 days.

Torres needed a rest for sure. I'd keep him for Europe.

Can't see why he couldn't..He's been kicking his heels for weeks on the bench since the Brugge game. Torres can come back in for RBL, his performances need to improve. It's that simple.

Mings absolutely has to keep his place, it would send entirely the wrong message if he didn't. He played the complete match so not like Emery brought him off as he has been doing with Kamara. Torres has to earn his place back now, which is how it should be.

I don’t agree that’s how it should be. We should play the best players for each game. There’s plenty of matches where Pau is the best option and plenty where Mings is.

I think we are going to twat this lot.

Could see the end of their Manager if we do.

Same team please with only one tweek and that is Digne rested for Europe and Maatson to terrorise them down the left.

I don't agree with that at all. The defence has been running at nearly two goals a game against for a year, whoever the opposition is. Good teams are built on a solid defence, time to give Mings an extended run.

I'd love to hammer these lot and really get the wheels moving in the right direction. Heart says 4-1. Ollie at the double.

It’s little over 1 per game this season at home, where we tend to have more possession and have more control. I think Pau is more suited to those games. Away from home where it’s exactly 2 goals per game, I’d probably go with Mings, as we tend to be a bit more under the cosh. Not an exact science, as Mings was more suited to Brentford’s more direct approach, but is at least indicative of the positive of going game by game.
