Aston Villa v Brentford Pre Match Thread
« on: December 02, 2024, 05:54:48 AM »
Not started one of these yet so here goes.

We really are approaching must-win territory now. For confidence as much as anything. We have some tough games coming up and we really need to stop the rot with these two home games against red and white stripey people.

I wouldn't be averse to trying something like:

Olsen (Assuming Emi is out)

Konsa
Mings
Torres
Digne

Kamara
Onana
Tielemans

Bailey
Buendia
Duran

Although I expect Watkins to start as well as Rogers, who will start every game until he hands over the compromising polaroids of Unai he must have locked in his safe.

If Onana isn't ready then I'd play SJM in the middle with Bouba and let Youri drive forward.

Need a big performance here and I think we will get it.

6 points this week and the world will look a lot brighter. Anything less than 4 doesn't bear thinking about.

2-0 to Villa: Tielemans and Duran.

This pretty much is a must win after the horror show yesterday, and not for any league position reason.  We need to stop this crap run before it becomes something worse.

If we can’t be the sparkling team we were last season, we need to show some balls and some fight.  That was lacking yesterday and was the most disappointing aspect.

Brentford had a habit of scoring in the first minute. We need to come out the blocks fast, with intensity and put in a few ferocious tackles and get on the front foot.

If we do the usual and pass it back to Emi, for him to stand still with the ball for 30 seconds and scratch his arse, I fear we will be one down pretty fast.

Up the tempo and Up the the Villa.

1-0

We struggle against these at the best of times. Massively depends on team selection this one.... and based on Unai's recent brain farts, I'm going for a 0-3 defeat. We are infuriatingly slow in every department lately, and the run will continue on Wednesday night.

If I see one Villa player making the 'slow it down' gesture to the rest of the team on Wednesday, I'm going to lose my shit. Not looking forward to this.

No offence, but that team has 4-0 home defeat and P45 time all over it. A forward line of Buendia, Duran and Bailey? Blimey.

The issue with dropping Torres and replacing with Mings is the outball. Torres is precision, Mings plays up the line for runners. And we don't have pace.

I think I'd be tempted with that front 6 too, especially if Ramsey is still out (which of course he certainly will be).  Maybe Maatsen for Digne.  Harsh on Torres too maybe, although I know others will disagree!  Alternatively, go for something radically different shape wise and play a front 3 of Watkins, Duran and Rogers.

The Liverpool and Juventus performances lead me to believe that we were coming out of a bad patch, but yesterday put us right back to square one.

We were beaten to the ball almost every time by Chelsea and this alone needs addressing urgently before you even look at anything else. Desire and effort is your starting point and ours has vanished, our passing is off, players look bewildered and we have no cohesion. There needs to a quite a considerable turn around and I think we may see it on Saturday, but not Wednesday. Brentford Nylons are no mugs and will score early and it will get darker before it gets light.

1-2
