Given some of the great ties that came out of the hat this time around, how on earth has this been chosen for TV?

I'll be sitting this one out at home &!will go & see  the equally stunning PNE v Charlton the following day.

Well they've gone for all the obvious ones, but it is a bit leftfield, isn't it?

At least it gives us a bit more time before Everton the Wednesday after...

They always go for all-Premier League ties, because it makes them feel like they're getting to do a live Premier League game.

Strange. The broadcasters seem to have a thing with Villa v West Ham.

Why on earth would a free to air tv company want this game at prime-time ?

Are ITV after a tax-loss to start 2025 ?

EDIT ....probably as Dave says, ITV want to pretend they have Premier League football

I’d have preferred it to stay on Saturday but Friday night isn’t too bad. I was worried it might be moved to the Monday as I am picking my wife up from the airport on that day and a “welcome home, I’m off down the Villa” would not be well received.

Didn't Villa promise the first FA Cup home tie this season would be 25 quid or is that just for season ticket holders?

The West Ham game is on a Friday at 8pm.

Oh!

Empty seats?

Lowest capacity for years I reckon, unless they reduce the prices to practically nothing.

Friday night, just after Christmas when everybody is skint, and to almost certainly see a makeshift team and a poor performance with a good chance of a defeat. No thank you!

Roll up, roll up, now playing at a half empty stadium near you.

8pm ko
45 mins 1st half
4 mins added time
15 mins half time
45 mins 2nd half
6 mins added time

Match ends at 9:55pm.

Extra time?
Add on 5 mins coin toss etc.
15 mins 1st half
1 mins added time
5 mins half time
15 mins 2nd half
2 mins added time

Match ends at 10:38

Don't get me started on pens.

We're looking at finish at almost 11pm.

Good luck getting home if you're using public transport.

We'll be on the telly.

Told ya.

No matter how dull the prospect to football fans, the TV companies only see the PL aspect and will always choose a game like this, particularly commercial broadcasters. Choosing this over the Leeds V Harrogate tie is nonsense really.
