Much as I love Emery and want him to see out his career with us I would like to see a journo ask him some tough questions for what is a third successive limp exit from this competition.

Totally agree.

We're a club starved of trophies, it's not acceptable.

Man utd have won 2 trophies last 2 seasons, what has that done for them?

Given them trophies?! You know, the whole point of competitive football?

The only way that can be justified is if we beat spurs. Simple as that

I get CL is where money is at. But if we are not in it to win trophies whats the point of existing? We need trophies.its already embarrassing enough that blose have won more than us in the last 20 years

Missed opportunity, this and and a top 4 finish would be a really successful season for us, Philogene wow!, and our keeper, what was he on?, this should have been taken seriously, still need a couple of top players in come January to push on for the business end of the season, I thought the one positive was Mings, looked very good, getting better.

Heroes are Mings, Kamara and McGinn - the adults in the room - together with Ned, who I thought was very good, and Duran. Gold stars to all.

No stars for Buendia, so often caught in possession. Philogene was too lightweight (made Bailey look like a rock) and his decision making was appalling - criminal to pass up this opportunity to shine. Wasn’t impressed by Gauci in general and felt he might have done better with both goals. Maatsen had an unusually poor night, with a lot of misplaced passes.

Everyone else, passable.

We could have beaten these lot, even with all the changes.

I agreed with your earlier point about needing to show up against Spurs (and definitely Brugge if CL is the priority) but give over with this ‘embarrassing’ nonsense because they won a thing once. Embarrassing would be it being your only bauble in over a century.

We don't *need* trophies we need to finish top 5/6 and be in the champions league, without those things we don't have enough money to compete. You win one trophy and it gives you no cash. I'm not saying I like it but it's where we are at

Emre had no interest in winning this, bigger fish to fry. Thought Kamara and Mings looked ready but Buendia and the young keeper nowhere near. It's a competition worth missing.

You’ve Gotta be 35 plus to remember Villa winning a trophy
And you’re on here saying it’s a competition worth missing. what a fucking joke footballs becoming

Its just things changing mate, it doesn't feel right but it's unfortunately the way. All the money comes from league and champions league so we need to focus on those.

You just said Man United won two trophies what is it done for them

Well they gave their fans 2 big days out, bigger than anything we’ve done in the last 28 years
they put two trophies in the cabinet

To be honest I can’t quite believe the attitude of some of our supporters not wanting to win a bit of silverware

Two of the best days of my life were 1994 and 1996 and it is sad each year to see us, not just give up on this competition, but devalue/cheapen those days we had in 1994 and 1996. They were 'only the league cup' after all
