Any encouragement for Villa?
In short, no. The Birmingham club, who have not been out of the top flight since 1988, rarely looked like ending a club-record run of 17 matches without a league win.

I took my lad who's not really into football, we left a bit early as nothing was happening. Was halfway down the stairs and the first went in, and the two lads behind us started discussing travelling to Stevenage!

45 years ago today Dennis Mortimer scored one of my favourite Villa Park goals ever in a 2-0 win against Liverpool. That’s when I really started to believe that we could win the league.
