The away end was terrible. I couldn’t see the penalty area nearest us. And what on earth was Steve Sims doing for the second penalty?!

That was the day I started to think we could go straight back up.

On this day yesterday in 2015 we lost 3-2 at home to Watford, which basically confirmed our relegation in November. I watched the highlights back yesterday and our defending is hilarious. We looked very much like a Soccer Aid team.

I've blanked out most of that season from my brain and part of me actually enjoyed watching how pathetic we were whilst existing in my lovely 2025 Unai Emery reality. Maybe I'll watch the 0-6 at home to Liverpool next.

I shudder every time I see Micah Richards in a Villa shirt - it feels like footballing PTSD.
It didn't actually happen very much though.

I know what you mean about blocking out that season. Hardly remember any of it. Probably why I get more ptsd from the Lambert season (2013?), where we conceded 15 in 3 games, including 3 at home to Wigan and lost to 4th tier Bradford over 2 legs.

That first season under Lambert was so weird, wild swings between complete humiliation and Benteke inspired brilliance.

The most utterly bereft of hope I felt was the scoreless run under Lambert just before he got sacked. It was so monumentally shit going to matches at that point. Relegation season we lost so frequently it was a given so was less stressful.

Sounds remarkable, but true.

Certain relegation takes away most of the strain and anxiety of being a fan.

After that game, I met a couple of fans in the Tennis Courts pub who had travelled up from London. One of them started crying.

No wonder, the Tennis Courts was a shithole. Should have gone in The Towers.

On this day in 1987 Bruno put those tatty tramps across the city firmly in their place.

I seem to remember that it was Villa fans who broke in the night before to cut the goal nets and daub slogans everywhere.
