The forty yard pass from Sid would come after he had run thirty yards to slide in from behind an opponent to take the ball off him ,get up and turn without touching the said opponent who would still be wondering where the ball had gone.
This!!!

My two favourite memories of Sid.

1. An astonishing cross field pass to set up Daley I think for a goal away at Wimbledon.

2. His run and finish for the first goal against Everton in the 6-2 in 1989 live on itv.  In front of less than 18k!

30 October 1937, we drew 1-1 at home to Coventry in front of 67,000 fans. Still a record attendance for a 2nd tier game I think.

Also on this day in 1886 we beat Wednesbury Old Athletic 13 nil in the Cup.

And 34 years ago today Kent Nielsen's finest hour (which makes me feel really old!)

We used to have a 'Dads Team' from the kids Junior school, Andy Comyn turned out quite a few times for us. He was a really nice modest fella, almost seemed embarassed talking about his Villa days. I think at one point we could have turned out close to an entire team who had played in the top divisions in England.

Six years ago today Alan Hutton wrote his own small bit of Villa folklore.

More importantly though the man who walks on water was born today in 1953.
Happy 71st birthday Brian Little.

Which means it is 30 years to the day since he became our manager. it was his 41st birthday.

Where have the years gone.

Something I have only just found out is Brian was born on the same day that Hungary beat England 6-3 at Wembley.

I've only been writing about it for twenty years.

Sorry Dave. That one completely bypassed me.

Think I’ve still got that Everton game on VHS somewhere.

This will resonate with those of us of a certain vintage who bought Villa stuff from his shop in the 1970s and 1980s. Harry Parkes was born today in 1920. Thanks to the AVFC History BlueSky account for this one.

Loved visiting his shop. Had the privilege of buying my first ever Villa scarf from the man himself there back in the day. Always remember the clutter inside and the cricket bat door handle. That scarf travelled to many third division grounds and made it to Rotterdam - good value!
