What's the going rate for a young player killing it at League One level but without any pedigree higher up? Can't be more than £5-6m I'd have thought.

If we  can't even afford to loan him out to a championship club  this month and hope that he smashes it with the plan tiget more money in  the summer then our finances really are in the shits

Or, we think that he might not step up to Championship level so a failed half-season loan there might actually diminish his value and this is actually selling him at his highest value point.

I dont see why they would think that when he has been tearing up league one and most likley could do as qell as archer did

They probably don't think that. I'm just trying to put some shades of grey in your rather black and white way of looking at things.

The development of academy farms is dreadful for the wider game. An unintended consequence of PSR perhaps but it's not in the interests of player development. There should be some kind of clause put in that the player has to have played a certain amount of first team football before the club can bank the benefits for PSR purposes. Dobbin, Kellyman, Barry just all pawns really.

Either way this club needs to improve its revenue to compete into the future so failing to improve the capacity at Villa Park when we have the best team in a generation beggars belief.

No problem with selling him if we include an optional buy back. Helps with FFP, then potentially helps with FFP again in the future, or we can bring him back if he does really well. No massive risk.

Presumably there will be a few sell on clauses involved if we are selling Barry.  Be interesting to see who to.  Unless there is a swap deal on the cards.

I think actual swap deals are a thing of the past. We might sell him then buy a player from the same club but as separate transactions like Kellyman/Maatsen or Iroegbunam/Dobbin.

So, player swaps then!  Comes to the same thing. :- )
I wonder if we have an eye on any Sunderland players.

Yeah that appears the way it works now to get around FFP. We did swaps with Juve for Luiz though which  for still is a strange deal when you consider  the players we got included when we could have probably got players that we could have used this season e.g dean huijsen.

With Barcas problems could we get Christensen on some kind of deal? A bit injury prone but looked a classy defender at Chelsea.

Never heard of him, but just looked him up and he’s right footed and played 13 games this season. He was on the bench in their last game against Sporting.
£45m option to buy after loan is a lot considering what we need to do with the squad but as long as it’s not an obligation, all good.

Media reports that Villa are interested in resigning Carney "who Chelsea value at £40m".  Right so the player you paid £20m for and have scarcely used costs twice what you paid for him.  Dream on!

He's one of the ones they're looking to get rid of so entirely likely this is agents trying to drum up some interest in him.
