Maybe some of the half and half scarves were bought by regular fans as souvenirs of a great event?

I’ve no doubt the majority were, but surely the red half could have been hidden away until they got home.
Back in the day I remember my mom saying that scarf won’t keep you warm tied round your wrist. She also used to say “Stop moaning and be grateful”.
Great article.

Scarf tied around the wrist. Those were the days

Never thought I'd encounter the day when the NOW sport package felt like less of corporate rip than actually going to VP but here we are

Great article Dave. The only difference for me is that the Club will have to work very hard to keep me as a season ticket holder next season. Everything Heck is doing is pissing me off and I feel a disconnect with the club just now. People were moaning about the CL prices but, I agree that, if we make the knock out rounds, you ain’t seen nothing yet. I’ve been a season ticket holder through all the thick and thin years but, not prepared to pay the stupid prices no matter even if it was Bayern. Good luck to all those that went to it as a one off match but, who we probably will never see again unless we draw a big name in the next round!! That sums up PL clubs nowadays, sod the old faithful fans as long as we can get some tourists to replace them. Enough is enough.

I used to think the half and half scarf thing was massively corny. But I now just file it in the who cares category. Let people enjoy the experience as they want. I’m not buying one ever but doesn’t mean others shouldn’t. I’m sure the Villa fans wearing them were every bit loyal Villa fans.

The horrible bit is that the won’t be trying hard to keep any of us…we’ll get the price & the date to renew and that will be as much as they try to keep any of us….thats of course unless they decide they want any of our seats for the nonsense GA+ then they’ll tell you they are taking your seat and you should be grateful they might offer an alternative.

After years of being a ST holder I didn’t renew this season for a number of reasons. I watch every game at home with a few beers and I’m not missing going to VP at all.
Never ever thought I’d say that but what’s going on off the pitch has killed it for me.

Was that me with my two children? I’m offended. I’ve brought many more than two!

Lovely article. Insightful, cynical and romantic.all at once.

I think it was a brilliant night to bring children too, a great investment in their future Villa support. Beating one of the European giants in that atmosphere would make them the envy of their peers at school the following day. It will stay with them for the rest of their lives and ensure they are Villa for eternity.

I like the thread title too.  More than a nod to Marlene Dietrich.

As I said to my daughter afterwards as we walked down Witton Lane ‘they did it for me! I needed them to win for you and they did it’.

And the club doesn’t make a penny out of them. You got to feel for Heck.

They’ll have made a good few quid out of the official ones in the club shop

Unfortunately Heck doesn't realise this, in the next 12 months we will lose a lot of fans who have been priced out or can't take being mugged off. If we drew Real Madrid in the knockout phase I hate to think how it would be priced.
