I’m amazed that Pau and Konsa are considered a strong pairing in central defence, despite the evidence.

Its certainly stronger than pau and carlos

Evidence?

You certainly can’t point to goals conceded. Even this season. Never mind last, when it was overwhelmingly in favour of Pau/Carlos.

I’d have thought the amount of goals conceded was quite an important metric for centre-back pairings. Seems not for a lot of people.

This time tomorrow Aston Villa v Bayern Munich will have finished. Let's savour the moment.
It's less than 24 hours now before the match.
I cannot even wait.  What an occasion!

Don't care what music they play as long as we perform on the pitch,it won't make any difference to UEFA what we think

Yeah I'm never there early either but I absolutely will be for this. I'm so proud of the team and what we've achieved. I think the atmosphere will be like a derby game.

I just hope we don't get embarrassed. Our inability to defend (why we didn't make RB a priority in the summer I will never know) is going to cost us here.

I'm not sure what the score wil be but I will pleasantly surprised if we still have a positive GD at 10pm.

Our defence is a major issue . If Emery can tweak things we might be ok otherwise it's going to be a long night.

They've obviously got some great players, but they are they not better than Man City, Liverpool or Arsenal.

We've matched or beaten all of them over the last 18 months. So we can give Bayern a shock too.

It's been a long time since we've had a game like this to look forward to. UTV

I would argue they they are better than at least two of those sides and on current form, their forward line vs our defence may be one of the biggest mismatches we have seen in quite some time.

Our defence has got progressively worse since those wins against Man City and Arsenal so you can't take much from the fact we beat them 9 months ago.

A point would be an incredible result, but I just can't see us getting one. Not with our defence the way it is.

09/04/24 Arsenal 2-2 Bayern Munich
14/04/24 Arsenal 0-2 Aston Villa

Let's stop shitting ourselves as though Bayern are some superhuman side.

I think it's quite acceptbale to be worried about their forward line that scored 9 in their last CL game and 12 in their last 3 away games, against a defence that has conceded 5 goals to the likes of Everton, Wolves and Ipswich in recent weeks.

You can point to as many results from last season as you like, but on current form, which is what was being discussed, they look very dangerous going forward.

Christ, get a fucking grip.

We've got a 100% record against these absolute chumps.

We're going to funeral them and send them back to Oktoberfest as a charred mess in a tupperware box.

Man up*

I do not see us getting much from this, we are not on form. It will be a great night until the game starts.

Disagree.

With the atmosphere we'll give a good account of ourselves first half. Can see it going like the Arsenal game so vital we take the chances that come our way in the first half.

Just looking through their squad...jeez. Sane, Gnarby, Kingsley Coman, Michael Olise and one of my favourite players to watch Jamal Musiala. Supreme ball carriers with pace the lot of them.

If Delap can make Carlos look like a league 2 defender when running at him he simply can't start this game otherwise he'll be exposed very badly.

Still it will be a great night. I saw elsewhere a poster described themselves as "very nervous" for this game. This has to be the least nervous I've ever been.

Very nervous is when you mess up and lose a play off final and all the ramifications that could've easily happened if NSWE hadn't turned up.

Very nervous is when Whelan is stepping up for that penalty v Preston. You want to score and win but secretly hope it dosen't happen as it probably buys Steve Bruce a few more weeks. Ironically tomorrow is the six year anniversary of that game.

Very nervous is the last ten minutes of the Derby match and hanging on. Same for West Ham away when we had to draw to stay up.

Just enjoy tomorrow watching us yet again compete against a world class team. To those who will be in attendance you're certainly paying enough for the occasion so embrace it as we've waited long enough to be back on this stage at VP.

So you are not a man if you don't think we are going to win against one of the best teams in Europe?

As it's a pre match thread I think pointing out the concerns ahead of the game is part of the very point of the thread and the forum as a whole.

However it seems that if you don't agree with the idea that we are goung to win every game 5-0 your points aren't valid.

They have been blowing teams away this season. Scoring for fun and sitting top of the Bundesliga. We have been shocking at the back against poor opposition and I worry that we may get exposed by a team as good at scoring as Bayern Munich are.

"Manning up", whatever that is meant to mean, has nothing to do with it.
