I'd go for something like

                Martinez
Nedeljkovic Konsa Torres Digne
       Onana Barkley Tielemans
                Rogers Ramsey
                    Watkins

And bring Bailey, Duran, Maatsen on later.

A bit early for a Christmas tree but needs must. I like the two ball carriers behind Watkins. Play to their strengths. Ramsey with his back to goal isn't working, both he and Rogers can play crucial roles running at the Bayern defence.

A defence well covered by a midfield two or three. I'd be tempted to play with the ball, Tielemans just in front of Onana and Barkley, without it dropping back to a three. Under no circumstances would I play just Onana and Tielemans as our defensive midfielders.

Ned at RB  for me with Konsa/ Pau /Digne.   Onana/Tielemans need to be properly on it from the start. If Emi puts in a Spink 82  performance we will win, no worries.
On the other hand if we concede first like we seem to do I don't think it'll end well.
For those fortunate to have a ticket enjoy every minute.

Yep, I'd have Tielemans floating about, picking up the ball and passing it about. With those three we can hold position, links well with intricate passing and use the full backs for width on either side. Watkins would enjoy it and we'd have Digne and Tielemans on dead ball duty.

I think Bayern will win this, we let goals in pretty much every game and this team has some seriously good players to punish us
1-3.

What do the Bayern boardies think of us, for those who skulk on rival forums (BV, Dave?)?

A draw would be a ridiculously good result for us

Huh? Why?

I wouldn't say 'ridiculous' but a draw against Bayern in the group stages is something I would be happy with. Would be different if it was a two legged tie.

I wonder if Rapid still have that "your nightmare returns" banner for us to borrow.

I just saw this - brilliant! 🌟

They think Kane is a serious doubt,  and Muller will start. Don't seem overly worried about us and have one eye on Frankfurt at the weekend. They know we are shaky at the back and are reasonably confident. Most of them predict an away win of 1:3 or 1:4...

I'd play Onana and Barkley central with Tielemans and Bailey making the 'box' shape rather than wingers per se (though obvs Bailey will play more like a winger no matter what you tell him).

Is he stupid?

Not at all, I just think it's where he'd always see opportunities and drift towards.

I think you meant research rather than skulk. Anyway not much game chat yet, just that it should be a fun trip to Birmingham and "es ist voller Möpse, Muschi und der Villa", which I'm waiting on Proprosition Joe to translate.

The priority is top4 again. These champions league games are to be enjoyed as a bonus. From the 8 games we will qualify for the later stages, whatever result we get in this match.

Apologies. Long may such excellent research continue.
