Been with my dad for an hour he's gutted about the news of Gary Shaw. Talking to him about shawsy tonight and asking what was he like as a player. Dad's words " he was a young lad who had everything won the fa youth Cup the league and European Cup and b4 he was 20. One of the best talents he's seen and is alway in his villa best 11. Shawsy was a great guy and would always lighten up the. Rip shawsy you'll be missed

Everton fan

I was at goodison park,early 81,when Villa battered us 3-1. Tony Morley scored goal of the season, but the best player on the pitch by a mile was Gary Shaw,what a striker what a player and he looked like an adonis. The Everton fans clapped Villa of the pitch that day.

The thing about Gary Shaw for me and all my friends, no matter who we supported was that he wasn’t much older than us, he had rockstar looks, was a great player and we all wanted to be him.   When any of us scored at lunchtime we were Gary Shaw!!

I'm an Albion fan but I Ioved Gary Shaw. One of the best I've ever seen. I remember that turn on a sixpence to set Tony Morley off for his wonderful goal at Goodison.

This one hits hard. Gary Shaw was the reason a young lad in Preston ignored the other local kids in the early 80s with their Liverpool, Everton and Man U kits and got a Villa top with number 8 on the back and joined the lifelong rollercoaster of being a Villa fan. He was just brilliant to watch, so talented.

In Italy, in the 80/81 season, a private TV station began broadcasting English football matches, with great audience success. The season coincided with Aston Villa's historic victory.
I still remember many players from that team (I also spoke to some of their fans I met in Athens for the Conference final in May) and among them Gary Shaw.
This photo dates back to the summer of 1982 when, after the great victory of the European Cup, Gary was voted the best Under 23 in Europe by an Italian magazine.
The award was entitled Bravo and Gary, who came to Italy to collect it, was awarded here by Enzo Bearzot, coach of Italy who had recently won the world champions. Ciao Gary 🙏
