I didn’t hear or see any tribute sadly.

Nor me sadly.

Probs not aided by the fact in the 8th minute we were attacking the Holte and had a couple of corners so even if anything had started it wasn’t quiet enough to allow a chant to grow…shame though

There were a handful of people near me in the Trinity lower, roughly my age, who clapped. Was really disappointed but people seemed oblivious to the reason why we were clapping.

I expect the median age of the crowd is about 35. Gary Shaw had stopped playing several years before most were born. And TV highlights of goals and play were three a weekend if you were lucky. And as our club hasn't stated anything, the majority of those fans are totally unaware of his condition either.

Nev from H&V was belting out the Gary Shaw song in the 8th minute behind me. Quite a few joined in. Others looked round slightly bemused...

I have spoken to a few fans who are my age, and they didn’t know Gary was poorly.
Obviously it’s not really in the wider public domain.

Problem was we had two corners just on the eighth minute - some folk (including me) did clap but it just got lost in the general noise for the corners

In any organised game as a kid I had to have the number 8 shirt because of Brian and Gary.

Did he ever write a memoir or do any extensive interviews/podcasts about his career?

To have his talent, looks and success by the time he was 21, it must have taken such strong spirit and resolve to get through the years that followed of disappointment and frustration with injuries.

But he achieved more than 99% of footballers/professionals ever do. I hope he had a good life afterwards.

Gary Shaw was my first footballing hero - the first Villa player's name I ever remember.

I did have the honour of meeting him at a Villa Park event, where he was a guest speaker; and I had the job of introducing him to various senior managers/Directors of the companies who were at the event.

I was starstruck, but he was your typical friendly Brummie, didn't seem to have a massive ego.

I often wonder what sort of career he'd have had without his injuries - he'd have surely been an England star in the mid-late 80s.
