Nowt but a youngster; part of our story.
Get well, lad.
Bloody hell; he's only 3 years' younger than I am!
I apologise for my patronising first post on this thread.
Anyway, very much part of our story and I truly wish him well.

I swear Lineker would have hardly played for England had Gary remained fit.

Read elsewhere that there is speculation that he has now passed away - hoping that this is bull shit.

Why post internet rumours if they are not confirmed?

The club's social media hasn't even spoken of him yet. Too busy pushing corporate packages I suppose.

Gary was my first villa hero, I was six or seven when he was at his peak for us.  I hope he recovers quickly and fully.

It's been about thirty years since I last thought about it, but didn't he win something like "European Young Player of the Year" back in or around 1982? I guess it would be a precursor to today's "Golden Boy" thing, but I can't find any mention of it anywhere on the Internet.

Did I imagine it?

Not a word from our club about him, meanwhile from Shrewsbury who he only managed a couple of dozen games

You didn't imagine it. It was officially called the Bravo award.

Great, thank you - was beginning to worry if my mind was playing tricks on me.  Some incredible names on that list of winners.  What could have been if it weren't for that knee injury (which I'm guessing could have been treated much more easily these days)

Thought i'd post some non Villa fan comments about Gary, there's loads more as well. Maybe gives those too young to have seen him an idea of just how good a player he was.

There aren't too many players that are so good everyone takes notice of them but Gary Shaw was one.
Although I support Liverpool I still took notice of this incredibly talented player.
Villa fans must have been estatic when they saw him burst onto the scene.

Not part of the Villa family, I'm Liverpool, but I'm also part of the football family & remember Gary very well, what a player he was, I wish him well in his recovery, get well soon Gary

Not a Villa supporter but still a favourite player of mine back then, best wishes to Gary and his family.

Not a villa fan but growing up Gary Shaw was my favourite striker. Get well soon

As an Evertonian he was one player I always feared when playing Villa. Hope he recovers soon.

Quote
One of if not my favourite non Everton player in the late 70s early 80s, hope he gets through what he is suffering from, get well soon Gary

Oh that’s awful news. I loved Gary Shaw, despite not being a Villa fan. He was just brilliant to watch, one of my favourite non-Brighton players. Come on Gary pull through fella. 👊

Always Wanted Man United To sign Gary Shaw, Played in one Of The Great Teams of The 80s Packed with great players

Yep.  Just one of those special players that nearly everybody can appreciate regardless of allegiances.
